  • Patent number: 5607265
Abstract: A device to change the rotation of a shaft such as in an electric hand drill to the reciprocating motion necessary to power a saw blade. The reciprocating attachment has a grooved shaft and saw blade holder connected by a bearing all of which are contained in a housing. As the grooved shaft is rotated the shape of the groove in the grooved shaft causes the saw blade holder to move in a reciprocal manner in a groove in the housing. This provides the motion necessary to use a hand drill to saw an object. Alternative versions of the device include the widening of the groove in the grooved shaft with the saw blade holder having a holder pin and an end retained in a holder groove to cause the reciprocal motion. In addition, an inclined disk may be mounted on the rotating disk shaft to engage the saw blade holder slot to cause the reciprocal motion.

  • Patent number: 5595250
Abstract: The drill attachment is a cordless, electric or pneumatic drill device having three (3) flush cut features which enables user to saw in a reciprocating action. A compact metal enclosure has steel bevel gears together to generate perpetual motion onto an eccentric peg to drive arm to blade. The rotation of the drill enters the tool by the removable hexagonal shaft which can be inserted into the tool at three (3) different angles depending on the task. The small bevel gear meshes with a larger bevel hub gear having an eccentric peg that is inside an elongated slot of the blade drive armature. As the small bevel gear rotates, its speed is increased by ratios in the larger bevel hub gear; the rotation of the larger bevel hub gear is converted to a linear reciprocating motion which drives the blade.

An electronic speed control reduces the router speed for boring, and an electronic digital readout provides accurate measurement of horizontal movement of the table.

  • Patent number: 4710071
Abstract: A two-speed gear box for handheld electric drills and the like has the movable parts associated with gear changing on or associated with a lay shaft. Gear changing is preferably effected by moving a pair of dogs, slidably mounted in holes through a lay shaft gear, to drivingly engage in either of two dog clutch members on the lay shaft. A thin flexible arm, preferably including a ring around the lay shaft, mounted in cantilever fashion from a movable base effects movement of the dogs. Should the dogs not be in proper register with a respective dog clutch member when changing speed, then the arm flexes and urges the dogs into driving engagement when proper register occurs. A family of two-speed drills having different specialized functions, e.g. a drill, a hammer drill, a screwdriver/drill, a screwdriver, etc., can be produced with the maximum parts in common enabling greater manufacturing flexibility and lower cost of manufacturing the family.
