  • Patent number: 8042437
Abstract: A tool structure contains a first part having an oval end section with regard to an axis of symmetry in a direction of a maximum height and an axis of symmetry in the direction of a maximum width, and a second part having a recess accommodating the end section via mutual contact surfaces. The tool structure has a clamping element for the mutual clamping of the parts and mutual contact surfaces that are restricted to in each case four spaced-apart surface sections. These surface sections are disposed symmetrically with respect to a circumference of the end section such that a center point of a straight connecting line of the starting and end points of the respective surface section is at a normal distance b1 from the axis of symmetry and at a normal distance h1 from the axis of symmetry, h1 being greater than b1.

  • Patent number: 8029216
Abstract: A chuck and an article are configured such that the article is releasably secured in the chuck. One of the chuck and article is provided with a crest and the other with a trough. When the article is secured to the chuck, the crest enters the trough so as help prevent slippage of one with respect to the other. The chuck may include a receiver having a tapered bore, a collet having a complementarily tapered outer surface, and a nut configured to be threadingly secured to a forward end of the receiver; the article may be a shank, such as a tool shank. An inner surface of the collet may be provided with a crest which is configured to fit into a trough formed on the shank. In a secured position, the shank is accommodated in the bore of the collect with the crest of the collet at least partially occupying the trough of the shank, thereby preventing movement of the shank relative to the collet, which itself is accommodated in the bore of the receiver.

Abstract: A cutting tool, and a loose top therefore, includes two parts detachably connected to each other via a threaded joint in which co-operating male and female threads are included in the form of helicoidal ridges. The profile shape of each helicoidal ridge is defined by a top and two flanks, which delimit a helicoidal groove having a bottom. The first flank is inclined in relation to a center axis of the tool at a first angle that is smaller than a second angle of the second flank in relation to the center axis. Accordingly, the thread ridge is reinforced in comparison with thread ridges having a symmetrical profile shape, whereby larger tensile forces than compressive forces can be applied to the threaded joint while avoiding damage to the thread ridges.

Abstract: The present invention relates to tools with replaceable tips and, more particularly, to arrangements for securing replaceable tips to tip holders. The tool includes a tip including a working end, a connecting end, and a radially extending abutment surface; a tip holder including a mating end for mating with the connecting end and a radially extending supporting surface for abutting against the abutment surface to limit axial movement of the tip relative to the tip holder. The connecting end is non-circular and includes a groove. The tool includes an assembly including the tip and the tip holder arranged such that, upon relative rotation of the tip and the tip holder in a connecting direction, an axial force is exerted on the groove and causes the abutment surface to move toward the supporting surface.

Abstract: A cutting tool assembly having a tool holder and a cutting tool. The cutting tool has a shank that is matingly received within an axial bore in the lower end of the tool holder. The shank includes an eccentrically-shaped driver portion. The tool holder's axial bore includes an enlarged eccentrically-shaped drive opening which is complementary in shape to, but slightly larger than, the driver portion. When the shank is inserted into the axial bore, the driver portion and drive opening are aligned allowing the cutting tool to be partially rotated relative to the tool holder. This partial rotation abuts a portion of the eccentric driver portion against the drive opening wall to provide rigid support of the cutting tool against further rotation as the tool assembly cuts. A cammed fastener releasably interlocks the partially rotated cutting tool within the tool holder.
