With Provision For Adjustment Of Relationship Of Axes Patents (Class 408/46)
  • Patent number: 4427323
Abstract: A device is disclosed for cutting two parallel partially intersecting bores, such as the bores used in a screw type compressor housing, comprising, a device housing, a pair of spindles rotatably mounted to the housing and a tool holder connected near the end of each spindle. The spindles are engaged with each other through gears so that rotation of one spindle in one direction causes rotation of the other spindle in opposite direction. A drive shaft is connected to one of the spindles for rotating the pair of spindles simultaneously. Each tool holder is elongated along a major tool holder axis thereof which is substantially transverse to an axis of its associated spindle. The major axes of the two tool holders are always substantially perpendicular to each other so that free rotation of the two spindles, in opposite directions is possible.

  • Patent number: 4185943
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a machine tool which is particularly adapted for drilling and tapping holes in electric motor pole pieces with a center drill, drill and tap which are sequentially applied to the same hole. The spindle for each tool is provided with its own feed motor and drive motor, and each spindle moves vertically independently of the other for the successive machining operations. The drill and tap spindle frames are connected to horizontal lead screws so they can be moved laterally with respect to the center drill for variable hole spacing. Proportionate spacing is provided so that the drill is always intermediate and equally spaced from the center drill and tap to easily accommodate different size pole pieces which have different spacing requirements of the mounting holes.

  • Patent number: 4165948
Abstract: The invention relates to a machine for drilling and boring tubular plates, the workpiece-carrying elevator being embedded, weight compensation being provided by appropriate means, the machining units moving substantially at ground level opposite thrust tubes bearing on the plate before each machining cycle and absorbing tool thrusts. The machine is characterized by an elevator which supports the plate for machining and which moves on slideways with balancing by hydraulic rams in a constant proportion to the weight of the workpiece being machined. Thrust means retain the thrusts of the spindles, the movements of the latter spindles and means being synchronized by means, the tilting torque produced by the thrust of the spindles is limited by the provision at ground level of a closed framing which interconnects all the constituent elements. The invention is of use for drilling and boring any article, more particularly for the baffle plates of heat exchangers, boilers, water purifiers, heaters and the like.

  • Patent number: 4088417
Abstract: A drill may be fed into a workpiece at a rate where the angle descent is less than the primary relief angle of the drill and wherein the extruding action takes place in 1/3 or less of the drill diameter. Unachieved rates of drill feed speed with high precision may be achieved without punching or crushing the material of the workpiece. In order to accomplish such drilling rates an improved feed mechanism, utilizing a positively driven lead screw is employed. In addition, in order to utilize the high drilling rate, a multiple bank of spindles is devised having an X-Y adjustable configuration used in combination with a worktable translated by a lead screw and nut combination. The lead screw of the worktable is disposed within the worktable in the proximity of the axis of symmetry to the worktable in order to minimize twisting moments to the worktable.
