At Least One Tool Driven By Orbiting Wrist Plate Patents (Class 408/47)
  • Publication number: 20090110497
Abstract: A cutter is for driven engagement with a driving device of an arbor. The cutter includes a shank portion having a central axis and extends along the central axis between a first end and a second end. A cutting portion extends from the first end of the shank portion. The shank portion defines an entry channel extending from the second end for guiding the driving device of the arbor during insertion of the shank portion into the arbor. The shank portion also defines a retaining channel extending from the entry channel for selectively retaining the driving device of the arbor. Each of the entry and retaining channels have a trough portion extending toward the central axis. The trough portions of each of the entry and retaining channels have a common configuration for slideably receiving the driving device.

  • Patent number: 5676498
Abstract: A multiple spindle drilling apparatus (10) having an eccentric drive link (11), and a primary drive mechanism (12) coupled to the drive link (11) in an eccentric off-set manner. This eccentric off-set causes eccentric circular motion of the drive link (11) about a predetermined radius (R). A frame member (15) is included, as well as a plurality of in-line spindle units (16) rotatably mounted to the frame member (15) for rotation about corresponding spindle axis (17) thereof. An off-set coupling (21) is rotatably mounted between the drive link (11) and respective crank members (20) mounted to corresponding spindle drive shafts (22) to drive the spindle about the spindle axis (17). The coupling (21) is eccentrically off-set from the spindle axis by a radial distance substantially equivalent to the predetermined radius, and further in-phase with the eccentric off-set of the drive link (11).

  • Patent number: 4594037
Abstract: A multi-spindle unit for holding and rotating a plurality of rotary cutting tools has a unit body fixed to a first spindle of a machine tool, a rotatable shaft concentric with the unit body, and a plurality of secondary spindles each having a tool mounting portion at one end thereof. The rotatable shaft is coupled at one end portion to the unit body for receiving a torque from the holder body, the rotatable shaft being displaceable relative to the holder body. A rotation transmitting mechanism is provided to transmit a rotary motion of the rotatable shaft to the secondary spindles. A positioning member is fixedly disposed radially outwardly of the first spindle, and a cylindrical casing is disposed radially outwardly of the rotatable shaft such that the casing and the shaft are rotatable relative to each other. The casing is engageable with the positioning member for positioning thereof by the positioning member, and thereby positioning the secondary spindles.

  • Patent number: 4260301
Abstract: The present invention contemplates a multiple spindle drill having a housing with an internal cavity, with plural machining elements extending through a face plate, each element including a crank on the internal extremity. A driver plate in the cavity has plural holes therein for engaging all of the cranks of the machining elements on one side thereof, and an offset drive hole on the opposite side, with a drive shaft having a crank at the internal end thereof for engaging the driver plate in the drive hole for purposes of eccentrically rotating the drive plate to thereby rotate the machining elements in the desired manner.
