  • Patent number: 11973451
Abstract: A method of operating a power tool having a motor and a controller is provided. The method includes: receiving a position of a variable-speed input mechanism mounted on the power tool; determining a target speed of the motor corresponding to the position of the variable-speed input mechanism; determining an underspeed threshold corresponding to the target speed; determining a rotational speed of the motor; and interrupting a supply of power to the motor if the rotational speed of the motor is less than the underspeed threshold.

  • Patent number: 7798751
Abstract: A drill has a tubular outer housing and a tubular inner housing. The inner housing is movable between extended and retracted positions. A pneumatic motor with a chuck mounts to the inner housing. Air pressure is delivered to annular pistons to cause the inner housing to extend and retract. Also, an annular hydraulic chamber with a variable orifice bypass controls the rate of feed. A processor records the total number of holes being drilled as well as recording the time duration for each hole.

  • Patent number: 7121773
Abstract: An electric drill apparatus having a low profile is provided which comprises an annular cutter, a motor for rotating the annular cutter, a rotary shaft assembly for rotating the annular cutter attached to its leading end about a rotating, a rotation reduction mechanism disposed between the motor and rotary shaft assembly for transmitting a driving force of the motor to the annular cutter through the rotary shaft assembly, a feed mechanism responsive to an operation of a manual handle, for moving the rotary shaft assembly along with a straight line to advance or retract the annular cutter attached to the rotary shaft assembly with respect to a workpiece, and an adhesion base for securing the electric drill apparatus to the workpiece. The annular cutter has a plurality of cutting blades comprised of cemented carbide tips fixed on its lower end, thereby it is capable of rotating at a high speed.

  • Patent number: 7104866
Abstract: According to a machining device for machining a conductive workpiece (W) by a conductive (T), when the tool (T) contacts the workpiece (W) in machining, there is formed a closed-circuit (C) connecting the tool (T), the workpiece (W), a brush (315), a conductor (311), a main spindle housing (12), a main spindle (11) and again the tool (T in that order. Alternating-current is inducted to the closed-circuit (C) by a high-frequency generator (314) and an exciting coil (312). As a contact state between the tool (T) and the workpiece (W), impedance of the closed-circuit (C) is changed and then the alternating-current is changed, so that induction current is generated at a detector coil (313), thus monitoring and controlling the contact state by way of the induction current.

  • Patent number: 5895177
Abstract: A machine tool includes a spindle having a cutting tool for cutting a workpiece. For fault detection, a control unit of the machine tool detects a value representing a torque applied on the spindle while the spindle is stopped in a state the cutting tool is engaged with the workpiece. The control unit further compares the detected value (representing a torque) with a predetermined threshold thereby to determine that a fault has occurs. Since the detection of the value representing a torque is performed while the spindle is stopped, the detection is free from the effects of acceleration or deceleration of the spindle.

  • Patent number: 5730037
Abstract: The machine control system for a multi-spindle machine (10) includes a controller (42). The controller is operative to avoid machine down time by shutting down operation of the main drive motor (12) of the multi-spindle machine responsive to malfunctions as detected by a plurality of sensors. A controller is also readily programmable to modify the high and low shift points to optimize cycle times. The controller is further connectable to an administrative workstation (188) which includes a database (190) for producing a variety of analytical reports related to performance of the machine.

  • Patent number: 4261673
Abstract: A magnet base drill unit having a finger thereon frictionally engaging the surface of the workpiece to which the base of the drill unit is magnetically adherred. The finger is movable in response to lifting or sliding of the energized magnet base from the support base of the workpiece to actuate a switch for de-energizing the drill motor. The unit also includes a pointed punch adjacent the rear end of the magnet base which can be in one form of the invention impacted into the workpiece support surface either by a manually operated lever or automatically whenever the drill spindle is retracted from the work to a position near the upper end of its stroke. A second punch may be located on the drill unit rearwardly of the automatically actuated punch. The second punch is arranged to be embedded into the support surface of the workpiece by a manually applied hammer blow.
