The housing that surrounds the ultrasonic transducer does not require waterproofing for repeated autoclaving. By making the blade, connecting body with a protective sheet and transducer as a unit with an electrical terminal at the proximal end, they can be plugged and unplugged from a socket and electrical cord in the housing of the handpiece. Thus, only the unit needs to be disposed of after a procedure, making the disposable part of the handpiece even less expensive. The low-cost, disposable handpiece can be packaged along with additional disposable items that are required for one of several types surgeries.

    Abstract: A tool for repairing damaged threads within a bore. A generally cylindrically shaped tool body includes a threaded section at its bottom end, and an axial bore extending from a point adjacent the bottom end of the tool body to an upper terminal point in a higher portion of the tool body. The bore is closed off at its bottom end by a disk-shaped wall. A particulate waste entry aperture in the wall surrounding the axial bore is located adjacent the bottom end of the tool body, and an exit aperture is located higher in the tool body. Drive-receiving means is located at the upper end of the tool body. A housing, in which the tool body is rotatably secured with an airtight seal, encloses the portion of the tool body in which the exit aperture is located. The housing provides a space that completely encircles the tool body, and is in communication with the exit aperture at all times. The housing has an outlet opening that can be operatively connected with a conventional suction source and waste disposal system.

    Abstract: A head trimmer machine for cutting off excess material from a cylindrical portion of a blow molded bottle includes a fixture, a spindle rotatably mounted in the fixture, a cutting head attached to the spindle for rotation therewith, a cutter mounted to the cutting head, and a vacuum source for collecting the trimmed material by suction. The cutting head has a central passage so that it can fit down over the head of the blow molded bottle. The cutter is supported in the cutting head for movement between retracted and extended positions. In the extended position, the cutter extends into the central passage of the cutting head to cut the head or other excess material from the neck of the bottle as the cutting head turns. The spindle includes a central passage aligned with the central passage of the cutting head and the excess material is removed by being drawn through these passages by a gaseous flow created by the vacuum source.

    Abstract: An attachment for a rotating tool bit provides air flow in the vicinity of the work area without the need for separate vacuum or compressed air supplies. The device is mounted on the shaft of the rotating tool bit and provided with a plurality of vanes which direct airflow through a cylindrical housing towards or away from the work area. A central aperture provides resilient mounting of the attachment to the tool bit. The attachment is capable of providing suction as well as forced-air to the work area. A number of embodiments are disclosed for directing the exhausted air in different directions, depending on the application of the tool and operator orientation. A filter may be incorporated into the attachment in order to collect dust and debris carried away from the work area by the air flow.
