Multiple Work Stations Patents (Class 409/158)
  • Patent number: 8819905
Abstract: The present invention provides a machining center that efficiently machines a long workpiece using two pallets. A machining center 1 includes a saddle 30 that moves in a Y axis direction on a bed 10, and a table unit 50 moves in an X axis direction on the saddle 30. At a right end and a left end of the front surface of the bed 10, setup stations 110 and 120 are respectively disposed. While a spindle head 80 is machining a workpiece W2 with one pallet 140 placed on the table unit 50, a workpiece W1 can be set up onto the other pallet 130. A long workpiece can also be machined on the two pallets 130 and 140 placed on the table unit 50.

Abstract: A staircase stringer fabricating apparatus includes a structural machine frame having a carriage moveably mounted with respect to the frame for supporting an elongated stringer work piece. A track mounted upon the structural frame defines a guide for the carriage so that the carriage can move on a controlled path with respect to the frame. Material working stations, such as wood routers, welding torches or the like are spaced upon the machine frame for simultaneously preparing the work piece with selectively spaced apart tread assembly positions that define the horizontal stair step positions (including the spacing and angular positions) upon the stringer during use. The tread positions are preferably formed responsive to the movement of the carriage and work piece upon the track along the controlled path so that the work stations traverse the work piece.

Abstract: Machining equipment for a production line using pallet type jigs, which includes a plurality of pallet type jigs, a conveyance line capable of conveying the jigs, a work bench provided on the conveyance line, a spindle head capable of being fed back and forth with respect to the work bench, and a control system for controlling the conveyance line, the work bench, and the spindle head. On the work bench are provided a horizontal rotary table which is capable of turning and indexing at a desired angle and has a constant turning position, and two rails which are rotatable coaxially and integrally with the horizontal rotary table and disposed side by side in the vertical direction to extend in the horizontal direction, in order to follow the alterations of the machining angle of a workpiece held by the pallet type jig and further to carry the pallet type jig in and out of the work bench conveniently.

Abstract: A series of steps are performed at a plurality of stations on a component as it is automatically transferred from one station to the next during a manufacturing operation. Means and methods for measuring and recording the time cycles for each of the steps are provided. The recorded times cycles may then be compared with predetermined standards to determine the location of any faulty operation.

  • Patent number: 4422265
Abstract: A multi-station grinding machine has a worktable mounted on a machine bed to rotate about a principal axis. The worktable has a plurality of workpiece holding devices at equal angular intervals around the axis and uniformly spaced therefrom, each holding devices defining parallel to said principal axis a support axis for a workpiece to be held therein. A loading/unloading station and three work stations are positioned around the principal axes each work station including a grinding wheel. Table index device effects angular indexing of the table about said principal axis through a series of registered positions to bring the workpieces into precise register with the work stations in succession. Workpiece index device at each work station is selectively coupled to effect predetermined incremental indexing rotation of a workpiece to present preselected portions of the workpiece for engagement by the associated grinding wheel.

  • Patent number: 4218815
Abstract: A transfer machine of the type in which workpieces are successively transferred through a series of work stations on either side of the line of movement of the workpieces with work heads located at each station to perform various operations on the workpieces. The disclosed transfer machine consists of one or more transfer machine module units, each module including a prismatic base having upwardly directed sides upon which are mounted a series of oppositely directed heads and the workpiece transfer system mounted to the base and extending between the work heads to convey the workpieces up and down the base sides. The resulting vertical spacing of the work heads from one another enables closer spacing of the work heads by enabling access to the tooling through the space through which the workpieces are transferred, while reducing the floor space required for the machine. Also, chips formed during machining operations fall away so as not to accumulate at the machining station.

Abstract: A motion translation apparatus and method is provided which is particularly suitable for use with machine tools wherein the workpiece is moved relative to a tool. A stationary guideway member having a track of ball bearings mounted partially projecting from a V-shaped channel is fixed relative to the tool and relative to a rotatably driven turntable on which a hydraulic fluid operated actuator is pivotably mounted at one end. The piston of the actuator is pivotably secured to a link member which is in turn pivotably mounted on one end to the turntable. The free end of the link member opposite the end pivotably mounted to the turntable is pivotably connected to a movable guideway member which has a V-shaped channel adapted to receive and engage projecting portions of the ball bearings in the stationary guideway member for a predetermined arc of rotation of the turntable.

Abstract: Corrugated tubing is advanced along its axial path by rotatably driven lead screw members the screw threading of which is in meshing engagement with the corrugations of the tubing, the lead screw members being in pairs with the screw threading of the members of each pair being of opposite hand and the lead screw members of each pair being rotated in opposite directions. The lead screw members of each pair present outwardly directed cutters which are synchronized substantially simultaneously to intersect the tubing thereby, in perforating the tubing, to restrain the tubing against rotation thereof about the axial path. There is also disclosed a method of producing the lead screw members with the outwardly projecting cutters mounted thereon.
