Abstract: Cutting apparatus having a ram axis gear tube (32) equipped with internal threads engageable with external threads (48) of a main shaft (42). A tool can be fixed to the main shaft (42). The external threads (48) of the main shaft (42) are formed on external splines (44). A main shaft rotation gear (46) has internal splines (41) mating with the external splines (44) of the main shaft (42). Rotation of the ram axis gear tube 32 thus causes the main shaft (42) to move axially via the internal and external threads. Rotation of the main shaft rotation gear (46) causes rotation of the main shaft (42). The tool fixed to the main shaft (42) can thus undergo axial and rotational movements. A motor (74) can be coupled to main shaft (42) and a motor shaft (63) extended through the ram axis gear tube (32) and the main shaft (42). The motor shaft (63) can drive a linear gear (68) of a cross slide assembly (24) and thus radially move a tool fixed to the cross slide assembly (24).

Abstract: An apparatus and method are provided for finishing the fabrication of venetian blinds at or near a point of purchase. The blinds are shipped to the point of purchase in a partially completed condition wherein the slats of the blinds have registered apertures formed in spaced relationship to one end of each slat, but with the opposed end being free of such apertures. An interlacing support and a pull cord are mounted to the ends of the slats having the apertures formed therein. The overall length of the slats exceeds the width of the window for which the blinds are intended. Apertures are then cut into the blinds at a selected distance from the trimmed ends. The blinds are completed by appropriately mounting a second interlacing support and pull cord in proximity to the trimmed ends of the blind.

Abstract: A simple, low cost, light weight biscuit jointer (21) comprises an elongated motor housing (23), a motor end cap assembly (25) fixed to one end of housing (23) and a base assembly (27) for engagement with a workpiece. To form a biscuit receiving slot in a workpiece, the motor housing (23) and end cap assembly (25) are pivoted relative to base assembly (27) for sweeping a an elongated, generally cylindrical bit (29) through an opening (31) in a base plate (33). The sweeping action is effected by an operator rotating a handle (35) fixed to end cap assembly (25) counterclockwise (FIG. 2) relative to base assembly (27). A handle (37) is used to stabilize base assembly (27) as house assembly (23) is pivoted to form the slot.

A milling cutter having axially spaced cutting elements along its periphery is positioned so that its axis is parallel to the axis of the disk. The cutter is moved toward the disk while being axially rotated, to cause the cutting elements to cut into the side edges of the periphery of the disk. The disk is then rotated one full turn to cause the cutting elements to cut the grooves.

  • Patent number: 4657452
Abstract: Contouring of a stack of one or more circuit boards is effected by first partially cutting the contour, leaving a portion of the contour long enough to ensure the rigidity of the circuit with respect to the board. The circuit is then clamped, while the remaining portion is cut without any discontinuity in the cutting. The machine comprises an operating head and a workpiece pressing pad which is operated for clamping the circuit during the cutting of the remaining portion of the contour. The pad is movable with respect to the head in a direction parallel to the uncut portion of the contour for displacement at least equal to the length of such portion. After the cut, as the head is raised, the pad is returned to rest position by the camming action of a roller against a sloping edge.
