Rifling Patents (Class 409/261)
  • Patent number: 11213902
Abstract: A broaching machine may include a broaching tool and a moving mechanism. The broaching tool may be movably arranged in a spindle of a lathe in a horizontal direction to machine a workpiece fixed to a chucking mechanism of the lathe. The moving mechanism may move the broaching tool in the horizontal direction. Thus, a process for forming a hole through the workpiece using the lathe and a process for machining the inner surface of the hole using the broaching machine may be continuously performed so that a time for machining the workpiece may be remarkably reduced. Further, the process for forming the hole through the workpiece using the lathe and the process for machining the inner surface of the hole using the broaching machine may be continuously performed on the workpiece fixed to the chucking mechanism to suppress dimension failures of the workpiece.

  • Patent number: 8033767
Abstract: An improved centrifugally-cast tube is provided, along with a related method and apparatus of making the tube. The tube includes a plurality of grooves and bosses that are mechanically machined into an interior surface of the tube, such as by a broaching process. The profile of grooves and bosses may be defined by a plurality of intersecting concave and convex radii. The tube is resistant to creep, carburization and metal dusting. The tube also has an enhanced heat transfer rate, and a desirable surface roughness. A method of making the tube is also provided. The method essentially consists of mechanically deforming the interior surface of the tube by passing a series of cutting inserts on support rings having incrementally-differing dimensions over the interior surface.

  • Publication number: 20010014261
Abstract: A tool for creating grooves or cut-away portions in the inwardly extending corrugations of a flexible corrugated hose in order to eliminate noises created by movements of fluids, such as air, through the interior passage of the hose. The tool is a generally cylindrical member having outwardly extending fins extending at an angle to the longitudinal direction thereof. The tool is placed within the hose and relative movement in an axial or longitudinal direction causes the fins to act as cutting members and create the grooves or cut portions. The movement causes the fins to create an angled pattern of grooves relative to the axial direction.

  • Patent number: 4411569
Abstract: A method for broaching a gain twist rifling in a gun barrel comprises cutg the initial tracking groove in the gun barrel, and thereafter passing a plurality of freely rotatable cutter assemblies disposed in spaced apart communication with each other, so that the cutters projecting from each cutter assembly pass sequentially through and may freely rotate within the tracking groove to successively increase and refine the diameter to form the final rifling grooves. The apparatus comprises a plurality of cutter assemblies mounted in spaced apart position along a support and drive shaft. The cutter assemblies define radially extending cutters, and are arranged in the order of increasing radial extension of the cutters, so that the radialmost extending cutter assembly makes the final pass through the tracking groove to complete the broaching operation.
