  • Patent number: 6129793
Abstract: A face-gear forging die which can be used to near-net forge face gears is disclosed. The face-gear forging die is constructed from a blank, and is cut to specification using a wire electrical discharge machining (EDM) process. The wire electrical discharge machining process is computer controlled, according to pre-specified instructions. Accordingly, a variety of different-shaped face-gear forging die may be constructed by merely changing the specification's input to the wire Electric Discharge Machining apparatus. The wire Electric Discharge Machining process can also be used to cut the face gear tooth directly, to thereby circumvent the forging procedure. The complex, curved surfaces of the face gear teeth are mathematically approximated with a ruled surface, and the mathematical approximation is input to the wire Electric Discharge Machining apparatus for subsequent execution and forming of the die.

  • Patent number: 4510667
Abstract: A method and apparatus for pre-setting the mounting holes for cutting and ejection tools characterized by a template which has a pattern of holes including centering holes and an arrangement for positioning both a cutting form and an ejection board whether it is the first or second ejection board relative to the cutting form. In the method, the cutting form is placed on the template and the centering holes are formed. Then with a pin received in each of the centering holes formed in the board the mounting holes are formed utilizing the holes of the template for guiding a drill, then an ejection board such as the second ejection board is aligned on the template with the cutting form and has centering holes formed using the centering holes of the template and the cutting form to guide and locate the drill bit. Additional mounting holes can be formed after providing the centering holes.

  • Patent number: 4359301
Abstract: A machine for precision working, for example shaving, of the tooth flanks of a toothed workpiece supported rotatably on a machine frame. A tool carrier carries a multi-toothed tool, for example a shaving cutter, and is supported substantially above the workpiece for rotative adjustment of the crossing of the axes of the workpiece and tool, about an axis perpendicular to the workpiece axis. The tool carrier is guided movably in a guide carrier and is driven for longitudinal feeding of the tool. The guide carrier is suspended swingably about a horizontal axis for spherical or conical tooth working. The guide carrier is supported pendantly from a swivel plate which is swingable and lockable about an axis perpendicular to the workpiece axis for adjusting the feed direction. The tool carrier is guided by a guide arm which is adjustable in its inclination and is securable by a pivot member on the swivel plate.

  • Patent number: 4354780
Abstract: A machine forming teeth about the periphery of a round blank which has two faces at an angle to each other, and a peripheral edge. The teeth are to appear at both faces and the edge. A single rotary tooth cutter is given a single path to cut each tooth and is controlled by a template to cut one side face, the edge, and the other side face seriatim in one continuous pass. A cam is used to impel the cutter and its drive shaft along its path.

  • Patent number: 4335985
Abstract: A control apparatus for controlling a feed or advance movement of a tool relative to a workpiece in a gear cutting machine operating according to a continuous cutting process, comprising a drive for the tool and the workpiece and a hydraulic directional control valve having a slide or spool controlling the infeed of pressurized fluid medium to a feed piston. By means of the feed motion of the feed piston there is moved through a preparatory path which can be adjusted by a control cam carrier or support as well as a machining or processing path which is governed by the control cam.In order to prevent, in the presence of false setting of the preparatory path, damage to the workpiece, tool and machine, there is provided a switch for turning-on and turning-off the drive of the tool and the workpiece and a pressure limiter which can be switched-off and switched-on during the time that there is moved through the machining path and preparatory path, respectively.

  • Patent number: 4261674
Abstract: A gear cutting machine and method for fabricating workpieces, especially steering segments, for transmissions having a variable transmission ratio, wherein there takes place between the workpiece and a gear cutter or hob a part-rolling or generating movement composed of a generating rotation about the workpiece axis and a generating displacement transverse to the workpiece axis as well as a to-and-fro cutting movement along the workpiece axis. An additional movement, controlled by a template and directed transverse to the workpiece axis, alters the course of the generating curve of the workpiece. This additional movement controlled by the template constitutes a change of the work position of the gear cutter and which change is directed transverse to the generating displacement.

  • Patent number: 4208155
Abstract: Gear cutting apparatus comprises a hob 9 carried by a radial slide 1 and an axial slide 16, which are moved by independent d.c. motors 20 and 17. A main variable-speed motor 2 on the radial slide 1 is kinematically connected to the hob 9 and to a turntable 10 for the workpiece. The speed of movement of the axial slide is controlled by an electronic circuit which receives signals from dynamo-tachometers kinematically connected respectively to the turntable 10 and to the motor 17 moving the axial slide 16. The movement of the radial slide 1 is controlled in accordance with that of the axial slide 16 by another electronic circuit.
