    Abstract: An apparatus for removing dross from the bottom front and back edges of torch cut slabs of continuous cast steel being conveyed upon a line of rollers. It has at least one blade support mounted upon a rotatable powered spindle journaled in bearings at an interior angle of about 6 degrees-15 degrees. It also has a pair of opposed parallel dross removing blades. Their front edges have a downwardly sloped flat top and a 90 degree vertical end. There is at least one vertical dross cutting blade mounted on the blade support at an angle perpendicular to the line of rollers and extending beyond the vertical end of the dross removing blades. Control means rotate the spindle sufficiently to remove any dross that has fallen thereon. Also disclosed is a method for using the apparatus.

    Abstract: An apparatus for removing the dross ridges which are formed on the lower surface of a metal workpiece during torch cutting of the workpiece. The beam is positioned to extend across and below the workpiece path of travel, and the beam is rotatable between a neutral position wherein one of the upper and lower surfaces is just below the pass line of the workpiece, and opposite tilted positions in which one of the cutting edges engages and removes a dross ridge on the lower surface of the workpiece. Each of the cutting edges comprises a plurality of separately pivotable cutting blades, so that the cutting edge formed by the blades is able to closely conform to a non-linear surface contour of the workpiece.

    Abstract: A hydraulically-driven deburring shear assembly used to remove dross from the edges of a slab of steel that has been torch cut. The assembly comprises a table assembly, a pair of arms, and a knife assembly. Each arm is adapted to alternately act as a pinch roll and a pusher arm to effect the consecutive deburring of opposed edges of a slab of steel, as follows. After the slab of steel is placed on the table, one of the arms is lowered to rest on the slab and apply a downward pressure on the slab, and the other arm is lowered to come into contact with the leading edge of the slab. At the same time, the knife assembly is raised to the level of the table. The other arm then pushes the leading edge of the slab back over the knife assembly to shear the dross from the edge. Both arms are then raised, the knife assembly is lowered, and the slab is traversed in the forward direction.

    Abstract: An apparatus and method for imparting a sharp, defect-free outside corner of a desired angle to a metal workpiece are disclosed. The apparatus comprises two separate cutting tools, each with a distinct cutting direction. The tools are juxtaposed such that their leading surfaces are adjacent to each other and that their respective cutting edges intersect at the desired angle. This provides that the cutting directions of each tool are opposite one another. In using the improved cutting apparatus, the workpiece is secured and the apparatus must be movable along the x, y and z axes. By cutting the first and second surfaces of the workpiece in sequence with the first and second cutting edges of the present apparatus respectively, a sharp defect-free corner of the desired angle can be imparted to the workpiece. A specific application for the present invention is in the fabrication of intricate copper products, such as heatsinks for semiconductor devices.

These burrs are removed by a plurality of edged cutting tools which are installed serially along the width of the slab to be treated.
