    Abstract: The present invention provides an apparatus for use on a roof or the like which incorporates an insulation material. The invention allows workers to shave the insulating layer to smooth, remove high spots, or create slopes, valleys or sumps, in order to achieve positive slope for water drainage. As part of the invention, there is provided, an apparatus for milling the surface of a low slope substrate, comprising a milling device comprising a cylindrical tubular structure having an outer rotatable milling surface, said surface positionable adjacent said substrate and drivable in a rotary motion to mill the surface of the substrate; a milling device support upon which said milling device is mounted for movement in a milling direction; a mounting assembly for mounting said milling device to said support; said mounting assembly including means for adjusting the angle and depth of engagement of said milling surface to said substrate.

    Abstract: A cutting tool for simultaneously carrying out a facing operation and a grooving operation on a target surface has a facing part and a grooving part that protrudes from and may be integrally formed with the facing part. The facing part has a facing surface for carrying out the facing operation and the grooving part has a grooving surface and is for cutting a groove of a specified depth and width on the target surface simultaneously as the cutting tool is moved in a specified forward direction parallel to the target surface. The dimensions of the facing and grooving parts, the roughness of their surfaces, the angles of their cutting edges and the sloping angles of the facing and grooving surfaces with respect to the forward direction are each required to be within a specified range. Where the grooving part protrudes from the facing part, the corners at which the facing surface joins the side surfaces of the grooving part are formed such that each corner has a beveled surface portion.

    Abstract: An apparatus for removing the dross ridges which are formed on the lower surface of a metal workpiece during torch cutting of the workpiece. The apparatus includes a support beam having generally flat upper and lower surfaces, and a cutting edge extending longitudinally along each of its four corners. The beam is positioned to extend across and below the workpiece path of travel, and the beam is rotatable between a neutral position wherein one of the upper and lower surfaces is just below the pass line of the workpiece, and opposite tilted positions in which one of the cutting edges engages and removes a dross ridge on the lower surface of the workpiece. Each of the cutting edges comprises a plurality of separately pivotable cutting blades, so that the cutting edge formed by the blades is able to closely conform to a non-linear surface contour of the workpiece.

    Abstract: Disclosed is a method and apparatus for shaping a top surface of a product, such as an antiperspirant or deodorant product, to have a compound-curved shape. The apparatus includes at least one cutting blade which moves inward and outward in a second direction while the product passes by in a first direction perpendicular to the second direction, such that the cutting blade cuts the top surface of the product to have a desired profile in the first direction. The cutting blade itself can have a desired profile along a third direction perpendicular to the first and second directions, to impart to the top surface of the product a desired profile in the third direction. A plurality of cutting blades can be used, to incrementally remove product material to form a final shaped product surface. The product cut off in forming the shaped surface can be reclaimed for re-use.

    Abstract: When a continuous cast slab is cut, such as by gas cutting, burrs tend to be caused at the cut edges. These burrs are removed by a plurality of edged cutting tools which are installed serially along the width of the slab to be treated. Each of the edged cutting tools may be selectively raised or tilted in the vertical direction or moved in the horizontal direction to substantially follow the warped or otherwise uneven surface on which the burrs are located. In this manner, substantially all of the burrs are exactly and completely removed.
