Abstract: A railroad car for carrying a container comprising a car body supported by rail trucks adapted for movement over a railroad; the car body having opposing side walls and an end wall near each end connected to the side walls with said side walls and end walls defining a well in which a container can be received and supported; and guides mounted along each side wall for effectively reducing the width of the well space so as to center in the well a container having a width significantly less than the well width so as to limit sideward movement of the container in the well when the car rocks.

Abstract: A hanger which supports a temporary deck in an intermodal container. The hanger is removably secured to a ledge, which is part of the container, and extends downwardly toward the floor. One set of hangers is placed along each wall and the temporary deck is extended between them. The hanger itself includes a hook end and a link pivotally secured to a lower position. The link pivotally carries the hanger strap that extends down the wall. The hook end fits over the top of the ledge while the link contacts it on the bottom in a pliers-like grip. As vertical force is placed upon the hanger strap, the grip of the hook end and link increases.

Abstract: An enclosed trailer apparatus adapted for carrying either vehicles or other types of cargo. The trailer apparatus includes a pair of matched, arm assemblies including several pivotally connected arms operable by a hydraulic system. The arms are mounted to a carriage within the trailer and moveable longitudinally of the trailer. The arms are extendable outside of the trailer to grasp and load vehicles into position within the trailer. Wheel bars for facilitating the carrying of the vehicles and the supporting of the vehicles within the trailer are also disclosed.

Abstract: Fixtures supportable in a containerized unit for compartmentalizing the container into predetermined areas for storage and shipment of non-stackable articles at one or more levels within the container. A series of vertical support hangers are releasably connected to a longitudinally-extending horizontal top ledge within the container at opposite sides at predetermined spaced longitudinal intervals such that all the vertical load is supported by the ledge. Each of the vertical support hangers is provided with a releasable ledge-engaging C-clamp for gripping the ledge and a series of vertically-spaced pairs of slots for supporting horizontal support beams at predetermined levels by opposite vertical support hangers. Beam supporting connectors are positioned to support planar decking on the horizontal support beams at predetermined levels for compartmentalizing the interior of the container depending upon the article to be stored and shipped.

Abstract: An all purpose railroad car for transporting trailers and containers, having an elongated frame adapted to be supported by wheel trucks, combined hitch and container bolster means adjacent one end of the car frame for selectively receiving and releasably retaining a trailer king pin and one end of a container, and means spaced from the combined hitch and container bolster means for selectively receiving and supporting the wheels of a trailer and the other end of a container. The car may be a light-weight skeletal frame including an elongated center sill, wheel trucks at opposite ends of the center sill supporting said center sill, each wheel truck including a single axle. Cushioning means may be provided between the combined hitch and container bolster means and the frame operable to oppose longitudinal movement of the lading relative to the frame.

Abstract: A convertible freight car operable as a flatbed car for receiving items such as lumber and the like or as a bulk storage freight car for bulk items such as grain or the like. The freight car is converted from the flatbed car to the bulk storage freight car when the flatbed is elevated upward permitting a plurality of flexible containers attached to the underside of the flatbed to be extended to form containers for receiving bulk goods or liquids.

Abstract: The present invention comprises an elongated container which may be carried either by rail or on a highway by a conventional truck tractor. The container includes a pair of dolly engaging pins fixed to its floor at the opposite ends thereof. The pins are adapted to engage a fifth wheel mechanism mounted on a dolly having wheels thereon adapted to engage conventional railroad rails. The dolly includes two fifth wheel mechanisms, one for receiving the pin from one container and the other for receiving the pin from another container. Also mounted on the undersurface of the container is a fifth wheel carriage which is adapted to slide longitudinally with respect to the container and which is adapted to engage the fifth wheel mechanism of a conventional truck tractor. A pair of truck wheels are mounted on a carriage which can be mounted to the rear end of the container for use on a highway when being pulled by a truck tractor.

Abstract: A device for supporting a container on a chassis of a vehicle and for coupling the supported container to the chassis. The device has a basic frame defined by a pair of longitudinal, substantially parallel beams interconnected by cross-beams. At least two bridges are supported by the basic frame and are movable towards and away from the basic frame by a lifting mechanism. The bridges and basic frame have complementary shapes to facilitate proper positioning of the bridges with respect to the basic frame.
