  • Patent number: 4341495
Abstract: A corner post locking assembly for locking together two cargo containers placed one upon another; the assembly including an upper activating unit and a bottom twist lock and shear pin unit installed inside each vertical corner of the container; the upper activating unit being engagable by a bayonet of a hydraulically powered, container handling, spreader; the bayonet turning the upper activating unit which thus transmits rotation to the bottom twist lock and locks the shear pin to a container therebelow.

  • Patent number: 4331412
Abstract: A retractable center guide and vertical and lateral load restraint for a cargo carrying aircraft. The devices are mounted along the center line of the aircraft and in erect position include laterally extending arms adapted to overlie the edges of load carrying structure such as pallets. The devices are pivoted for swinging about axes extending transversely of the aircraft so that if a device is in the path of an advancing load carrying structure, it will be pivoted to retracted position, thus avoiding damage to the device or load carrying structure. Resilient means are provided effectively to maintain the device either in erect or in retracted position, or the resilient means may restore the device to an erect position if it is released after being moved to retracted position. The series of devices together with guide surfaces at the side of the aircraft, constitute an elongated guideway along which load carrying structure may be advanced.

  • Patent number: 4277212
Abstract: A connector for use in the securement of a first member, such as a cargo container, to a base support includes a base member, a post member extending from the base member in one direction and an attaching means for attaching the connector to the base support extending from the base member in the other direction. Restraining means provides vertical restraint to the container when the post member is positioned to extend into the opening of the web of the corner casting thereof and the container is restrained from movement in at least one horizontal direction. In one form, a restraining surface for the container is located on a cam pivotally mounted by the post member and in a second form, a restraining surface for the container is on the post member itself.

  • Patent number: 4237794
Abstract: Automobiles are lifted from alongside a fully enclosed multi-level deck rail car and loaded onto the decks through a side opening of the rail car. The automobiles are pushed forwardly from the rear towards an end of the rail car. Detachable securement means on the decks and the frames of the cars cooperate automatically in response to forward movement of the automobiles to compress the spring suspension systems of the automobiles and lock the automobiles to the decks to prevent longitudinal or sideward movement of the automobiles on the decks during transport.

  • Patent number: 4234278
Abstract: An improved locking mechanism for securing cargo units and the like during transport has first and second complementary locking pawls carrying oppositely directed locking dogs, each pawl being pivotally mounted between spaced side supports for movement from a retracted position to a generally upright locked position. While the first pawl only is biased by spring means towards an upright position, it is held down in a retracted position by retaining portions of the second pawl. As the second pawl is lifted from the retracted position to the generally upright position, its retaining portions disengage from the first pawl permitting the first pawl to pivot upwardly to the generally upright position under the urging of the spring means simultaneously causing both the first and second pawls to move into mutually locking engagement. The spring means biasing the first pawl only is located in a sheltered non-exposed out-of-the way position between the spaced supports and below the upper edges of the spaced supports.

  • Patent number: 4231695
Abstract: An apparatus including a plurality of interconnected portable pallets on which cargo is placed and which may be selectively moved into or removed from a truck body. The pallets constitute the bed or floor of the truck and may be independently or simultaneously moved into the body of the truck or removed therefrom so that portions of the contents may be loaded or discharged from different loading docks or the entire contents of the truck may be loaded or discharged from the same dock. The cargo may be loaded on the pallet or pallets prior to insertion into the body of the truck and such cargo may be unloaded from the pallets after the truck has departed so as to reduce delay in the operation of the truck.
