Member Comprises Key Movable Laterally Into Engagement With Threaded Elements Patents (Class 411/199)
  • Patent number: 10772392
Abstract: A fastening element comprises a housing having a top side and a bottom side and partially defines a recess extending along a longitudinal axis and adapted to receive the shaft of a stud, and a slit extending radially from the recess. The fastening element further comprising a spring ring seated in the slit and protruding radially into the recess. The sprig ring is seated rotatable in the slit, so that a rotational motion of the spring ring within the housing is allowed. The spring ring comprises a body and spring fingers, wherein the body is an annular body partially defining a hole, and wherein the spring fingers protrude radially into the hole.

  • Patent number: 8142126
Abstract: According to a preferred embodiment, a multi-piece fastener with self-indexing nut is disclosed. The multi-piece fastener is designed for use in low clearance areas such as aircraft wing side-of-body joint locations. The multi-piece fastener comprises a stud comprising an elongated part extending between a first end face and a second end face, a threaded head fastener, a threaded tail fastener, and a wrenching feature. A self-indexing feature is provided on the stud and head fastener which allows automatic orientation of the head fastener with respect to the stud.

  • Patent number: 7708509
Abstract: Retainer for threaded fasteners such as the cap screws that secure the end caps of roller bearing assemblies to railroad axles. A locking plate is constrained against rotation relative to the fastener, a lock ring having a plurality of openings disposed along a circular path is placed over the head of the fastener, with the fastener being received in a non-circular central opening in the ring and thereby constrained against rotation relative to the ring, and tabs extending from the locking plate and engaging the lock ring through the openings to retain the lock ring on the fastener and prevent the lock ring and fastener from turning. In the disclosed embodiments, the ring can be placed on the fastener in different rotative positions, and the number of tab openings is either a prime number or another number that is not divisible by factors of the number of ring positions, whereby the fastener can be selectively locked in a relatively large number of different positions no more than a few degrees apart.

  • Patent number: 6234926
Abstract: A tool is provided for holding a cable fixing bolt of a bicycle component in a loose condition. This tool allows the cable fixing bolt to be shipped and stored in loose condition, while preventing the cable fixing bolt from falling out of a bicycle component. The tool can be used with the cable fixing bolt derailleurs or brake device. The tool basically has three portions. The first portion engages a head portion of the cable fixing bolt. The second portion is spaced from the first portion and is located adjacent a threaded shaft portion of the cable fixing bolt. The third portion is spaced from the second portion and engages a part of the bicycle component (e.g., a nut, a link or a brake arm). In each embodiment, the first, second and third portions are arranged relative one another to hold the cable fixing bolt in a loose condition, while preventing the cable fixing bolt from being disengaged from the part of the bicycle component.

  • Patent number: 4297063
Abstract: A self-retaining safety bolt assembly having a headed end, a cylindrical shank, and a pin tail nut with a tubular shank telescoping over the cylindrical shank with means near the headed end to retain the tubular shank on the cylindrical shank in a hole in a workpiece. An axial passage opening into the headed end intercepts a laterally-extending passage wherein a dog is laterally reciprocable so as to be extendable beyond a maximum diameter of the cylindrical shank or to be entirely retracted within it. A cam member having a pair of oppositely facing cam surfaces is axially slidable in the axial passage. The dog has a pair of followers, one on each side, bearing against the oppositely directed cam surfaces whereby the lateral position of the dog is uniquely a function of the axial position of the cam member.
