  • Patent number: 9194420
Abstract: A nut rotation prevention structure is provided with a shaft member, a nut, and a rotation prevention member. A wheel hub is supported by the shaft member. The nut is engaged through threads with a first portion of the shaft member, the first portion protruding from the wheel hub. The rotation prevention member is mounted to a second portion of the shaft member and prevents the rotation of the nut, the second portion protruding from the nut. A key groove is formed in the second portion. The rotation prevention member has a tube-shaped section and a connection section. A portion of the shaft member, the portion having the key groove formed therein, is inserted in the tube-shaped section. The connection section connects the tube-shaped member to the nut. The tube-shaped section is affixed to the key groove by staking.

  • Patent number: 8753054
Abstract: A hollow element such as a hollow rivet or a nut element for attachment to a component consisting of a composite material such as a fiber reinforced plastic part or a fabric reinforced plastic part is presented. The element has a flange part and a shaft part extending away from the flange part and/or a rivet section, wherein the rivet section, is present, can also be formed at the free end of the shaft part, with the a hollow element furthermore having a central passage, which is optionally provided with a thread cylinder. The hollow element is used in combination with an auxiliary tip which is either inserted from the flange side of the element through the passage, or from the side of the free end of the shaft part of the rivet section into the passage, such that a conically converging region of the auxiliary tip projects from the free end of the shaft part or of the rivet section.

  • Patent number: 8727684
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention relate generally to nut retention devices and, more particularly, to nut retention devices having a strap that can be fixed to a distal end of a threaded member without damage to the threaded member or nut, thereby permitting their reuse. In one embodiment, the invention provides a nut retention device comprising: a body having a nut engaging opening; and a deformable strap extending from the body, wherein, in an operative state, the nut engaging opening immovably receives a nut that is threaded on a threaded member and the strap is positioned to fixedly engage the threaded member to retain the nut.

  • Publication number: 20100247266
Abstract: A self-locking nut comprises a slotted nut and a locking nut and is assembled by complementary asymmetrical threading. After the locking nut is threaded onto the neck of the slotted nut, the assembled self-locking nut turns freely as it is threaded onto the shaft of a bolt. Once the forward face of the slotted nut contacts the material being fastened, additional turns clamp the material to the desired torque. Now, when additional torque is applied to the locking nut, its internal thread slides forward along the shallow incline of the asymmetrical external thread on the neck of the slotted nut, thereby exerting a compressive radial force on the slotted neck. The compressive radial force contracts the slots of the slotted nut, thus constricting the circumference of the slotted nut around the bolt shaft.

  • Patent number: 7453972
Abstract: A secure connection between the bottom nozzle of a nuclear fuel assembly and the control rod guide thimbles having two or four crimped pockets in the side wall of a bottom nozzle leg counterbore which are formed by drilling two or four blind holes through the top surface of the bottom nozzle. After attaching the bottom nozzle to the fuel assembly with a crimp bolt a pneumatic tool is then inserted into a flanged cup feature on the crimp bolt head and the flanged portion of the cup feature of the crimp bolt is deformed into the crimp pockets. The crimp pockets are contained within the leg counterbore and prevent the screw from rotating or falling out of the assembly in the event of preload loss or screw fracture.

  • Patent number: 5423351
Abstract: A fastener for fastening together a plurality of members, such as the plurality of members comprising a tube plug, and a method for plugging an opening in a solid member, which may be a tube, for preventing the flow of fluid through the opening in a solid member or through the tube, such as a nuclear steam generator tube, comprises a first member, such as a shell, a second member, such as a bolt, and locking structure. A deformable tab portion of the locking structure may have an undercut positioned so that when the second member is installed within the first member, a first surface of the undercut is bent toward a second surface of the undercut thereby plastically deforming the tab portion into a recess in at least one of the first and the second members for automatically securing together the plurality of members.

  • Patent number: 4770846
Abstract: A support pin system (10) for fastening nuclear reactor guide tube flanges (14) to a nuclear reactor upper core plate (12) includes a support pin (16) having a lower portion (20) frictionally disposed within the upper core plate (12), while an upper section (24) is disposed within a through-bore (22) of the guide tube flange (14). The support pin (16) includes a threaded region (30) upon which is threadedly mounted a nut (32). In order to prevent retrograde rotation of the nut (32) relative to the support pin (16), a locking cap (46) is mounted upon the nut (32) and support pin (16) such that first crimped sections (48) are engaged within apertures (44) defined within the nut (32), while second crimped sections (54) are engaged within longitudinal grooves (50) defined upon the external surface of the support pin (16).

  • Patent number: 4347025
Abstract: A replaceable fuel nozzle nut lockwasher adapted to fit about the periphery f a fuel nozzle nut so as to secure the fuel nozzle nut to a fuel nozzle. The replaceable fuel nozzle nut lockwasher comprises a pair of semicircular shaped members clinched together by a pair of tabs. A pair of grooves located within the fuel nozzle nut lockwasher prevent the axial movement of the fuel nozzle nut lockwasher upon the fuel nozzle nut. In addition, a pair of dimples located within the fuel nozzle nut lockwasher, and a third tab affixed to the fuel nozzle nut lockwasher prevent the rotational movement of the fuel nozzle nut lockwasher about the periphery of the fuel nozzle nut.
