  • Patent number: 8016531
Abstract: An axle spindle nut assembly secures a wheel end assembly on an axle spindle. The wheel end assembly includes outboard and inboard outboard bearings that are immovably mounted on the axle spindle, and a wheel hub which is rotatably mounting on the bearings. The spindle nut assembly includes a nut that threads onto an outboard end of the axle spindle, and is tightened against the outboard bearing to a selected torque level. The nut includes an outboard surface that is formed with a plurality of features. A washer is formed with a tab that engages a keyway of the axle spindle outboardly of the nut, and with a plurality of mating features that mechanically engage the features formed in the outboard surface of the nut to prevent substantial rotation of the nut after the nut has been tightened to the selected torque level.

  • Patent number: 7445413
Abstract: A screw-nut assembly has an integrated immediately effective securing arrangement that prevents an unintentional loosening of a screw connection formed therewith. The screw-nut assembly has a first screw connection body and an associated second screw connection body. One of the two screw connection bodies (1) has a free-wheel (3) that is connected thereto in a rotationally fixed manner. A coupling device (9) is provided between the free-wheel (3) and the other of the two screw connection bodies (2). This coupling device connects both screw connection bodies to one another in a rotationally fixed manner and allows their disengagement from one another.

  • Patent number: 7387285
Abstract: A clamp is provided suitable for clamping an object to a balustrade or other analogous structure. The clamp is attached by clamping the slats or spindles in the balustrade between a clamping nut and an adjustable jam plate. When the clamping nut is disengaged from the clamp, the jam plate may be slide along a shaft to position the jam plate. When the clamping nut is engaged with the clamp, the jam plate is locked in place on the shaft.

  • Patent number: 7000995
Abstract: An interlocking nut and washer system exhibits a very high degree of inherent mechanical stability. The preferred embodiment includes an inner washer, an adjustment nut, an intermediate washer, and an outer nut completing an interlock assembly. Although the inner washer is technically optional, use thereof does reduce wear on the inner nut. While the invention maybe applied in different ways, the system is particularly suited to the controlled adjustment of tapered roller wheel bearings. In this case the system is provided on the spindle ends of an axle, which mounts a wheel assembly that includes tapered roller bearings.

  • Publication number: 20010026745
Abstract: A locking nut includes a threaded main bore for receiving a threaded portion and a number of oblique bores in each of which is positioned a locking pin having a forward end for engagement against the threaded portion. The oblique bore and the associated locking pin have a common longitudinal axis extending at generally the same angle to the axis of the threaded main bore as one of the flanks of the thread of the threaded main bore so that the forward end of the locking nut has at least one flank generally parallel to the longitudinal axis and lying parallel to the portions of the one flank of the threaded main bore adjacent the inner end of the oblique bore. Each locking nut is generally cylindrical and possesses an outer surface that is grooved or serrated to facilitate insertion of the locking nut into the respective oblique bore.

  • Patent number: 5795037
Abstract: A novel axle nut system is provided on the spindle ends of an axle which mounts a wheel assembly that includes tapered roller bearings. The axle nut system of the present invention includes an adjustment nut, a washer and a retainer member. The adjustment nut is threaded into position having torque applied to it in a controlled manner to achieve specific preload bearing pressure against the outer bearings. Thereafter, the washer is placed into contact with the nut and is rotationally fixed with respect to the axle. Next, the threaded retainer member is rotated into contact with the washer. With the threaded retainer member placed on the axle to prevent any outward movement of either the wheel assembly components or the adjustment nut and washer, the adjustment nut is rotated in the opposite direction by which it was installed until it jams forcibly against the washer and thus, the threaded retainer member.

  • Patent number: 5549612
Abstract: An osteosynthesis plate system is particularly well adapted to securely fuse adjacent cervical vertebrae. The plates are adapted for mounting upon the anterior or posterior surfaces of the vertebrae. Plates for mounting on the anterior vertebral surfaces have a concave bone contacting surface and a bone screw locking mechanism integral with each screw hole. Moreover, the bone contacting surface of the plate has a plurality of bone penetrating protrusions to more securely affix the plate to bone. Plates for mounting on the posterior vertebral surfaces also have bone penetrating protections on their bone contacting surfaces. Such plates are formed so as to have a curved bone contacting surface that is concave in the transverse axis of the plate and convex in the longitudinal axis of the plate. The screw holes of such plates are constructed so as to guide a bone screw along a desired angle to improve the anchoring of the screws in bone.
