    Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure relate to retainer nut locking apparatus and methods for fluid ends, and associated components thereof. In one implementation, a method of operating a fluid end includes installing a retainer nut assembly on a fluid end body by turning a retainer nut in an installation direction and into a bore formed in the fluid end body. The retainer nut has a first surface that faces away from the fluid end body and a second surface that faces that fluid end body. The method also includes rotating a locking tab in a locking direction and into contact with an inner surface of the fluid end body. The locking direction is opposite of the installation direction. The locking tab is disposed inside the bore and adjacent to the second surface of the retainer nut.

The axle nut includes a cylindrical body having a first end, a second end having a face adapted to bear against a surface, a longitudinal axis, and an outer surface engagable by a tool; a threaded through-hole directed substantially along the longitudinal axis of the cylindrical body; and at least one recess in the face of the second end of the cylindrical body, the at least one recess adapted to expose at least a portion of the surface the face bears against. The first end of the axle may comprise a nut locking mechanism, for example, the nut locking mechanism may include a counter bore having a plurality of internal projections, such as, gear or spline teeth.

    Abstract: The specification discloses a locking threaded fastener including a body, a coil spring, and a compression ring. The body is hex-shaped and defines a partially threaded bore, an external circumferential groove, and a passage extending radially between the bore and the groove. The coil spring is located within the bore and includes a first end angularly fixed with respect to the body and a second end extending through the passage and into the groove. The compression ring is located within the groove and defines an opening receiving the second end of the coil spring. The compression ring is free to move within the groove and includes portions that extending radially outwardly beyond the flats of the hex shape. When a conventional wrench is engaged with the hex shape, the wrench compresses the compression ring to prevent relative angular movement between the ring and the body. The “locked” compression ring thereby prevents relative angular movement between the second end of the coil spring and the body.

Each locking nut is generally cylindrical and possesses an outer surface that is grooved or serrated to facilitate insertion of the locking nut into the respective oblique bore.

    Abstract: The present locking mechanism for rotatable fastener functions to reliably and inexpensively secure a rotatable fastener in place once it is seated. This is accomplished by the formation of an aperture into the body of the rotatable fastener in a lengthwise direction coaxial with the axis of the cylindrical shaped rotatable fastener. A second aperture is formed in the body of the rotatable fastener perpendicular to the first aperture and intersecting same. A locking pin is placed in the second aperture such that one end of the locking pin is flush with the surface of the body of the rotatable fastener, non-interfering with the operation of the threads formed on the exterior surface of the body of the rotatable fastener. A second end of the locking pin protrudes into the first aperture. A locking post is placed in the first aperture, located above the locking pin and accessible via the open end of the first aperture in the head of the rotatable fastener.

In the event that the nut backs off, the pawl prevents the bolt from pulling out of a close tolerance hole, such as a rod end fitting.
