Patent number: 8485910Abstract: A fastener includes a t-nut having a barrel and a flange. The flange includes an opening which leads to a threaded barrel. The threaded barrel extends from the opening in the flange to a distal end portion thereof. An end cap has an annular recess on a first side thereof and has a raised annular ridge on a second side thereof. The raised annular ridge of the end cap is affixed to the flange of the t-nut by welding the end cap to the flange. Dirt, water and moisture cannot enter the barrel because the end cap is sealed to the flange. Additionally, the barrel may be relatively short as it is fully threaded prior to the affixation of the end cap to the flange.Type: GrantFiled: December 7, 2008Date of Patent: July 16, 2013Assignee: Stafast Products, Inc.Inventor: Stephen Selle

Patent number: 7195436Abstract: An inset panel fastener anchors into honeycomb substrates employed in the aircraft industry. The inset panel fastener provides significantly increased load carrying capabilities with a simple inexpensive construction. The inset panel fastener includes a plastic casing and a central floating fastener element. The casing includes a body, disk and cap. The body is generally barrel shaped including a central chamber for holding the fastener element which is preferably a female fastener. The disk radially projects from the top of the body and includes a fill hole and vent hole. Meanwhile, the cap engages and covers the bottom of the barrel shaped body. The cap is affixed in place using a weld, such as a sonic weld.Type: GrantFiled: December 6, 2004Date of Patent: March 27, 2007Assignee: NMC Group, Inc.Inventor: Douglas Stephen

Patent number: 6827539Abstract: A decorative fastener assembly including a nut insert and a decorative cap. The cap includes a flatted portion sleeved over a flatted portion of the nut insert and further includes a flange portion proximate its open lower end. An O-ring seal is compressed between the flange of the cap and the circular enlargement of the nut insert to preclude the entry of moisture between the cap and the nut insert. A top end wall portion of the cap is welded to an annular weld projection on the top end of the nut insert in surrounding relation to the central bore of the nut insert. As the weld projection is melted to perform the welding operation, the cap moves further downwardly on the nut insert to further compress the O-ring seal between the cap flange and the circular enlargement of the nut insert. The cap flange portion proximate its open lower end is then crimped over a circular enlargement of the nut insert.Type: GrantFiled: December 26, 2002Date of Patent: December 7, 2004Assignee: HTG Corp., Inc.Inventors: Steven D. Somers, Robert A. Lucius

Patent number: 6186719Abstract: An improvement in the structure of a capped lock nut includes a nut body made of metal and formed with a shoulder extending upwardly from a top of the nut body and then inwardly to form a flange thereby providing an annular recess between the flange and an upper thread of internal threads of the nut body; a nylon packing ring snugly-fitted within the nut body; and a cap being a hemispherical shell member having an outer diameter which is just equal to an outer diameter of the shoulder of the nut body, whereby the cap can be easily welded to the nut body without causing damage to the nylon packing ring thus strengthening the engagement therebetween and increasing the production rate.Type: GrantFiled: December 30, 1998Date of Patent: February 13, 2001Inventor: Ming-Chung Chou

Patent number: 5676511Abstract: In a screw securing device for a screw (1) by means of which a first component (2a) and a second component (2b) are clamped together, a bushing (5a, 5b), includes a cylinder (5a) and a base (5b) which contains a bore, the bushing being arranged in a first bore (3a) of the first component (2a). The first bore (3a) opens into a smaller, second bore (3b) of the first component (2a), and said second bore (3b) is provided with a left-handed thread (8) in which there is screwed a tubular extension (5c) which is arranged coaxially with the bore in the base (5b). The screw (1) is screwed, through the bushing (5a, 5b) and the tubular extension (5c), into the second component (2b) by means of its right-handed thread (7). A cap (6a), having an insert (6b) which is connected to the screw head in a positively locking manner, is fastened on the bushing (5a, 5b) by a welding bead (4).Type: GrantFiled: September 5, 1996Date of Patent: October 14, 1997Assignee: Asea Brown Boveri AGInventor: Pierre Meylan

Patent number: 4955773Abstract: A decorative capped wheel nut for holding a wheel on a motor vehicle where the capped wheel nut is exposed to view and to the enviroment. The nut has first and second ends, the first end to engage the wheel of the automobile, and a circumferential edge intermediate the first and second ends. The cap includes a side section to cover the sides of the nut insert and a top section, joined to the side section, to cover the second end of the nut insert. The opposite end of the side section terminates in a free edge, flare or flange which contacts the circumferential edge of the nut insert. The cap and nut inset are welded together at the contact between the circumferential edge of the nut insert and the free edge of the cap.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 1989Date of Patent: September 11, 1990Assignee: Key Manufacturing Group, Inc.Inventor: John A.
