  • Patent number: 6702536
Abstract: A nut fastener is formed with anti-cross threading features that include a rounded or chamfered edge at the entry end to the nut, followed by an unthreaded cylindrical counterbore that extends axially from the entry end to the threaded section of the bore. The rounded or chamfered entry end prevents cross threading and the unthreaded section is of sufficient length to ensure substantially collinear alignment between the threaded fastener and the correspondingly threaded nut before threaded engagement occurs. An optional radiused portion is formed between the unthreaded and threaded sections of the nut to further prevent cross threading. In a preferred embodiment, the anti-cross threading nut is a weld nut formed with weld protrusions which enable the nut to be welded to a large structural member before mating engagement with a threaded fastener occurs.

Abstract: A self-tapping screw type fastener of the present invention is characterized in that an external thread 7 of an adjusting rod (self-tapping screw) 5 is screwed into and fastened to an output rod 1 with tapping an internal thread 3 in an inner peripheral surface of a smooth prepared hole 2 of the output rod 1. The adjusting rod 5 has a threaded shaft 13 with the external thread 7 formed thereon and a smooth guide shaft 14 projecting from an end of the threaded shaft 13. The outer diameter R1 of the smooth guide shaft 14 is set to be smaller than the major diameter R4 of the external thread 7 and to be slightly larger than the minor diameter R2 of the external thread 7 or the minor diameter R3 of the internal thread 3. Because of the diameter difference “t” between the diameter R1 and the diameter R2 or R3, a step 20 is formed so that the step comes in contact with the nearest ridge of the internal thread 3, thereby preventing the adjusting rod 5 from getting loose.

Abstract: A fastener device for attaching a rear face of an acoustic panel to a substrate, comprising an anchor part for attachment to the substrate and a screw part having an inner end rotatably held by the anchor part. The screw part has a helical member with an outer end capable of penetrating the rear face of the panel when rotated by an elongated drive rod projecting from the outer end. The drive rod can penetrate a panel and is accessible from the front face of the panel to cause the helical member to penetrate and engage a rear portion of the panel, and to secure the panel onto the substrate. The drive rod is removable from the outer end of the screw part after the panel has been secured so that the fastener is essentially concealed within the panel.

  • Patent number: 6623227
Abstract: A drill screw includes a boring end having cutting edges adapted to cut when rotated in a counterclockwise direction, and a portion having threads adapted to enter a piece of molding when rotated in a clockwise direction. The drill screw is driven into a piece of molding in the counterclockwise direction to bore a hole therethrough and cause the threads to meet the face of the molding. The drill screw is then rotated in the clockwise direction to cause the threads to tap into the molding, bore through the wall behind the molding, and contact a jackpost behind the wall. Rotation of the drill screw thereafter causes the molding to ride outward from the wall and over the drill screw such that the molding contacts an adjoining piece of molding at an inside corner and thereby substantially eliminating any gap therebetween.
