Patent number: 4995777Abstract: A self-retaining collar for a pin of a two-piece fastener has a projection or detent from its inner surface for engaging locking grooves of the pin. The pin has a head and a shank, the locking grooves being formed on the shank. The fastener holds two or more workpieces together in tension by inserting the pin through the workpieces until the head contacts one side of the workpieces and the locking grooves extend through the other side. The shank has pulling grooves located on the side opposite the head. Once the pin is through the workpieces, the collar is slid over the shank until the detent engages the lands of one of the locking grooves. The collar will thus stay in place around the locking grooves even when the force of gravity tends to pull the collar off of the grooves. The collar is then swaged into the locking grooves while the workpieces are placed in tension by pulling on the pulling grooves of the pin.Type: GrantFiled: April 9, 1990Date of Patent: February 26, 1991Assignee: VSI CorporationInventor: John H. Patent number: 4922573Abstract: Bushings are embedded within a production drill plate to replicate the hole pattern of a master hole pattern plate. The exterior surface of each bushing is threaded, as is the wall of a receiving hole in the production drill plate. The pitch of the bushing and hole are the same but the pitch diameters are somewhat different so that the threads of the bushing are loosely engaged within the threads of the hole. When the bushing is potted in a properly aligned position, the containment potting material becomes compressed in the thread engagement area thereby resisting axial displacement of the bushing.Type: GrantFiled: April 14, 1989Date of Patent: May 8, 1990Assignee: Grumman Aerospace CorporationInventors: John M. Patent number: 4756654Abstract: A molded plastic female fastener component including an aperture having an entrance end for receiving a threaded stud or bolt. Within the aperture are retaining means in the form of an axially spaced series of flexible legs each of which extends about at least a portion of the inner circumference of the aperture to generally define a helical thread form. Patent number: 4728132Abstract: A bolt lock, for receiving and locking the end of a bolt having a head portion with a locking shoulder, said lock comprising a housing having internal jaws forming a central aperture, said jaws being expansible to allow the head of the bolt to snap through the opening so the the bolt shoulder latches behind the jaws. The jaws are retained in the housing above an aperture in the body which receives the inserted bolt head and below a bolt aperture in the upper portion of the housing, so that when the bolt is assembled, axial movement thereof causes the edges of the apertures to contact the internal jaws around and in spaced relation to the central aperture thereof. The jaws have upper and lower surfaces which are slightly inclined toward each other in relation to the axis of the central opening from the central aperture to the periphery of the jaws.Type: GrantFiled: December 2, 1985Date of Patent: March 1, 1988Assignee: Trans-Guard Industries, Inc.Inventor: Terrence N. Patent number: 4703775Abstract: A liquid flow regulator has a housing including an axial bore, an inlet, an outlet and a plurality of axial grooves opening endwise of the inlet and laterally of the housing into the bore. The grooves, which have different axial lengths, taper axially so that the cross-sectional area of each groove gradually decreases from the inlet to nothing at a point where the groove merges with the bore. An elastomeric stock fits within the bore. A plunger for expanding the sock radially outward into sealing engagement with the housing adjacent the bore is axially movable within the bore. Flow through the grooves and the bore is regulated by the axial position of the plunger and the minimum cross-sectional area of the tapered, axial grooves at the axial location where the sock seals the bore. Axial adjustment of the plunger sequentially opens and closes passage from the grooves through the bore to the bore outlet.Type: GrantFiled: April 25, 1986Date of Patent: November 3, 1987Assignee: Abbott LaboratoriesInventor: Giovanni Pastrone
-
Patent number: 4650373Abstract: An elongate hollow rock structure and installation wherein the elongated shank of the bolt is hollow and has a series of outwardly bowed side or side portions that are capable of resilient deflection. Fin means are provided in sides or side portion, with the overall span of the fin means being greater than the bolt hole into which the bolt is to be impacted. The pin means are tapered so as to provide for ease of insertion of the bolt. Impaction of the bolt into a mine roof hole provides for a compression loading of the fins of the bolt shank such that these engage the aperture wall in a forced-compression state. Corrosion factors are limited to fin edge contact with the aperture wall of the bolt hole. Resilient sides' deformation at the core of the bolt shank is relied upon to compression load the fins for frictional contact with the aperture wall into which the bolt is implaced.Type: GrantFiled: November 14, 1985Date of Patent: March 17, 1987Inventor: Ben L. Seegmiller
