The retaining cam (20) has a housing (22) pivotally supported on a base plate (24), by which the retaining cam (20) can be fixedly connected to one (17) of the components (16, 17). A screw (30) is secured rotationally fixed in the housing (22). A fastener bolt (40) rotatably connected to another (16) of the components (16, 17) can be screwed onto the screw (30). Spring elements are associated with the screw (30) for generating an elastic pretension for securing the fastener bolt (40) against rotation. The housing (22) is pivotally supported on the base plate (24) by a spherical washer (50). An angle deviation between the center axes of the retaining cam (20) and the fastener bolt (40) can be compensated for by pivoting the retaining cam on the spherical washer (50) while maintaining full-surface contact of the retaining cam (20).

  • Patent number: 8574271
Abstract: A screw fixation system includes a plate having opposed first and second surfaces, and a hole defined in the plate which extends between the first and second surface. A screw is included having a head and a shaft extending from the head and defining a longitudinal axis for the screw, the shaft of the screw being configured and adapted to be inserted into the hole. A retainer is circumferentially positioned around the shaft of the screw and proximate to the screw head. The retainer is configured to engage with the plate proximate the hole when the shaft of the screw has been inserted into the hole so as to resist removal of the screw from the hole and to allow removal of the screw from the hole when a preset torque is applied to the screw.

  • Patent number: 8506223
Abstract: An low-profile cam locking fastener assembly in which a locking nut is connected to a locking washer through a tubular skirt that extends from the nut opening. The skirt and nut opening are coaxial having contiguous inner surfaces that are threaded to receive a bolt or stud. The washer is mounted to the skirt so as to be rotatable with respect to nut as well as axially movable to a position in which cooperating cam elements on opposing faces between the washer and the nut are separated. The cam elements are arranged so that when the nut and washer are fastened down to a bolt or stud on a workpiece, the cam elements engage one another to substantially prevent the nut from loosening from the threaded bolt/stud.

  • Patent number: 8444357
Abstract: A washer body bearing hardened balls in apertures in the washer body provides a counter-torque resistance in a fastening. The hardened balls form projections that indent the underside of a fastener head and an adjacent fastening joint surface during tightening of the fastening to prevent rotation of the fastener head while a nut is driven to tighten or loosen the fastening. A reservoir portion of the apertures in the washer around the balls receives the material displaced during indention to allow full contact of the washer with the fastener head and joint surface. The hardened balls provide point loads for ready indentation upon minimal loading to prevent rotation of the fastener, obviating the need for a counter-torque wrench.

  • Patent number: 8403611
Abstract: Self-locking nuts help prevent the nut from backing off of a spindle or other type of threaded shaft. A single piece nut assembly is provided that is self-locking and comprises a nut subassembly and a washer subassembly. Nut and washer subassemblies are secured together, and do not require any special tools for installation or removal. The washer has an edge which is formed/rolled over a lip extending from the bottom edge of the nut when assembled to provide the unitized assembly. The nut and washer are held apart by a spring, such as a wave spring, until the washer contacts the face of the object to which the nut is being secured. At this point the spring is compressed to engage the nut with the washer, and engage holding elements located in the nut with a holding feature located on the washer and prevent movement between the washer and nut.
