  • Patent number: 4934861
Abstract: An apparatus for attaching external stores or loads on a thin walled pole includes a first, open ended and externally threaded hollow sleeve defining a shoulder at one end, and a second, open ended and internally threaded hollow sleeve. An elliptical disk mounted to one end of the second sleeve defines a second shoulder. An other end of the first sleeve is threadable in an other end of the second sleeve to form a hollow sleeve assembly of variable length. The elliptical disk has an elliptical projection which fits in an elliptical hole of a thin walled pole when the hollow sleeve assembly is fitted therein. By using an external tool to relatively rotate the first and second hollow sleeves, one can tighten the hollow sleeve assembly to provide an expansive prestress and support for a bolt which passes through the hollow sleeve assembly for attachment of stores or loads.

Abstract: A tri-lobular section of a bolt receives a mating tri-lobular bore of a washer to prevent the washer from rotating. Roll formed male threads on the tri-lobular section of the bolt receive a cooperating nut. The nut has a base shaped for wrench engagement, a thin walled barrel, a spring temper, and a threaded bore. The thread of the nut has two thread diameters: a large diameter thread in the base and a smaller diameter thread in the barrel continuing from the base thread; both thread sections have the same pitch. The barrel thread is substantially circular when relaxed. The barrel elastically flexes in response to the lobes of the nut as the lobes turn in the barrel, and when rotation stops, the barrel generally conforms to the tri-lobular shape of the bolt to form a thread lock, but the base does not.

  • Patent number: 4630984
Abstract: An assembly for fastening a compressible layer of insulation includes a threaded screw projecting through the center of a flat circular disk of a resilient plastic material. A central hub on the disk is received between the head and a flange spaced below the head to hold the disk adjacent the head, the hub being defined in part by resilient fingers which flex outwardly to let the flange pass through the hub as the screw and the disk are assembled together. An annular surface is formed on the underside of the disk at the periphery thereof to engage the insulation and ribs which decrease in width are formed on the underside of the disk and project radially from the hub to the peripheral surface so that an uplift force causes the disk to flex upwardly progressively from the periphery toward the center.

  • Patent number: 4621961
Abstract: A captive panel fastener includes three parts, a screw, a tapered bushing, and a slotted expandable sleeve. The bushing fits closely over the shank of the screw, and has an outwardly extending shoulder or flange at its lower end away from the head of the screw, to retain the expandable sleeve in the expanded condition. The slotted sleeve has a cylindrical upper flange which is generally co-extensive with the head of the screw, and has a lower flange which in the initial or relaxed condition is smaller than the panel hole through which the captive fastener is to be secured. Following insertion of the shank of the screw and the unstressed slotted sleeve into a hole in a panel where the fastener is to be secured, further pressure on the head of the fastener forces the sleeve into the bushing, expanding the lower end of the sleeve, so that its lower slotted flange grips around the lower edge of the panel.

  • Patent number: 4589809
Abstract: A fastener with a metal stud removably receivable in a plastic carrier member. A shank of the stud is inserted through a hole in the carrier member and an enlargement on the shank limits the extent to which the shank can be pushed through the hole. The stud is retained in the carrier member by entrapment of a portion of the carrier member surrounding the hole between the enlargement and a ring on the shank which has an interference fit with the hole. To facilitate inserting the ring into and removing it from the hole, the sides of the ring are tapered. The carrier member can be journaled on the shank to rotate freely with respect to the stud. If it is desired to prevent this rotation, the enlargement can have a non-circular configuration and be received in a mating non-circular recess in the carrier member.

Abstract: A mounting bolt assembly to permit one man toilet bowl installation is disclosed. The assembly includes a threaded bolt with integral head to engage within the slot of a usual floor flange. The bolt is undercut in spaced relationship from the head to facilitate shortening after installation simply by bending or snapping about the undercut groove without any need for sawing. A resilient flat washer is associated with the bolt in spaced relationship from the head in a position to permit a portion of the resilient washer to be bent or otherwise urged into the floor flange slot. In this manner, the bolt can be supported in an upright orientation from the floor flange without manual intervention to thereby permit the toilet bowl to be applied over the bolt by a single workman.

Abstract: A nut and washer unit for attachment of a plumbing faucet or fixture permits rapid and easy mounting at a supporting structure. The nut is placed on the shank before the faucet or fixture is dropped through the mounting hole. A C-shaped washer is positioned from below, between the nut and the mounting structure. An axially separable coupling between the nut and washer achieves initial placement of both parts at the mounting structure by simple hand rotation of the nut. Final clamping is achieved by engagement of wings formed on the washer, rotation of the washer causing corresponding rotation of the nut and, hence, advancement of both parts into clamping position.

  • Patent number: 4376334
Abstract: The invention provides a terminal clamp assembly comprising a fastener and one or more captive members and a method for making such a terminal clamp assembly. The terminal clamp assembly comprises a threaded fastener including a driver head portion, a threaded shank portion of predetermined thread crest diameter and an unthreaded shank portion of lesser diameter intermediate the threaded shank portion and the driver head portion. A captive member has a through aperture of greater diameter than the thread crest diameter and surrounding the unthreaded shank portion, and laterally oppositely outwardly extending protrusions on opposed outer edge portions. These protrusions are compressed by a planar die so as to deform the through aperture to a dimension smaller than the thread crest diameter, thereby captively assembling the captive member with the fastener, subsequent to formation and heat treatment of the fastener.
