Patent number: 5472302Abstract: A bolt includes a movable pin in the center thereof. This pin can freely move up and down in the bolt. If the pin protrudes out of bolt a predetermined distance after the bolt is screwed into a blind bolt hole, then an inspector knows that the bolt is fully engaged. If, on the other hand, the bolt is not fully engaged, the pin will not protrude the predetermined distance out of the bolt. A second embodiment of the similar invention is a stud having an indicator pin. In third and fourth embodiments, the bolts and studs have indicator pins including grease zerks. These grease zerks allow the holes to be filled with grease to prevent damage to the hole due to corrosion.Type: GrantFiled: September 8, 1994Date of Patent: December 5, 1995Inventor: S. E. Patent number: 5417520Abstract: A nut for use in a bolt assembly having an adhesive anchoring capsule for attaching roof or wall supports to the rock structure of a mine. The nut has deformities in its continuous internal thread that cause the continuous internal thread to bulge inwardly toward the axis of the bore. The deformities limit the advance of the nut upon a bolt and are formed by stamping dimples into one face of the nut. When an overcoming torque is applied, the deformities in the continuous internal thread are pushed radially outwardly and the nut is allowed to further advance upon the bolt. Because the deformities do not form a break in the thread, which remains continuous, no fragments are formed to damage the bolting tool, and the bolt thread remains undamaged so that a second nut can be threaded on it to hold a screen or the like.Type: GrantFiled: March 12, 1993Date of Patent: May 23, 1995Inventor: Donald E. Patent number: 5365991Abstract: A moving slide has a pair of flexible curtains mounted to its front and rear surfaces, the curtains being attached at opposite ends to front and rear support posts mounted to a base. The support posts have upper and lower pulleys. A cable is connected to the front of the slide and runs in this fashion: first horizontally across the top pulley, thence to the lower pulley, thence to the other support post, thence upwardly and finally around to the horizontal portion which connects to the rear of the slide. The cable is tensioned to a predetermined load which remains constant throughout the slide travel as the front and rear horizontal portions of the cable move. The flexible curtains are suspended from, but are not rigidly attached to, the cable. Thus, as the curtains expand and contract, the moving horizontal portions of the tensioned cable ride smoothly through the curtains, maintaining curtain support.Type: GrantFiled: June 25, 1993Date of Patent: November 22, 1994Assignee: Cincinnati Milacron Inc.Inventors: Robert M. Patent number: 5114289Abstract: As used with a nut, a device for indicating tensile strength comprises an annular groove approximately 1/8 inch in depth on the bottom of the nut adjacent to a washer. The same groove may be fitted in a bolt if the device is used with a bolt. A vertical shaft of the same diameter as the groove is also located within the nut or bolt engaging member and connects at one end to the groove. The groove and vertical shaft contain a "filler" material. A washer having a boss or protrusion is utilized with the engaging member wherein the boss or protrusion fits into the said groove. Once the washer encounters friction, when the combination nut and washer is tightened about a threaded bolt, with the connecting elements, the protrusion inside the groove pushes the filler up the vertical shaft as the nut rotates over the washer.Type: GrantFiled: April 22, 1991Date of Patent: May 19, 1992Inventor: Bernardo Coiffman

Patent number: 4662795Abstract: A nut element having a frangible portion for use with an elongated bar having an upper end anchored by a resin material within a drill hole in a mine roof, or the like, and a lower end extending outside the hole and threaded to receive the nut element of the invention. The nut includes a portion spaced from the threaded opening which limits relative rotation of the nut and bar. Thus, rotation of the nut with the lower end of the bar contacting the rotation-limiting portion thereof serves to rotate the bar within the drill hole, causing the upper end of the bar to rupture a conventional two-compartment resin cartridge and mix the contents thereof. When the resin has hardened to hold the bar stationary, excess torque applied to the nut serves to break the rotation-limiting portion thereof, preferably a dome-shaped cap with an opening of smaller diameter than the threaded end of the bar, allowing the nut to be snugly secured against a roof support plate and tension the resin-anchored bar.Type: GrantFiled: May 22, 1984Date of Patent: May 5, 1987Inventors: Carl A. Patent number: 4601623Abstract: A fastener system is disclosed comprising a nut having an axial bore provided with interior thread and a bolt having exterior thread for engagement with the interior bore of the nut. The nut has an end portion having an elliptical cross section for engaging a complementarily shaped driver. As the nut is tightened onto the bolt against a workpiece, resistance to further threading increases. When sufficient resistance to threading occurs, the driver will deform the elliptically shaped end portions of the nut, forcing material of the nut radially inward toward the axis of the nut. The portion of the bolt which engages the nut has a plurality of recesses for receiving the deformed material of the nut as it flows radially inward, thereby locking the nut, bolt, and workpiece together. The recesses of the bolt have a shoulder for abutting the deformed material to prevent unthreading of the nut from the bolt.Type: GrantFiled: December 6, 1982Date of Patent: July 22, 1986Inventor: John Wallace

The unit consists of a plurality of leaves connected together by a bail having a flat cap and fingers secured one to each leaf. The flat cap is dimpled to ensure an even distribution of tension applied to the fingers before the bail yields in use and also has a line of weakness to ensure that it will yield at a predetermined axial pressure. The fingers of the bail are also weakened at points in their length to a strength slightly greater than that resulting at the peripheral line of weakness.Type: GrantFiled: April 21, 1980Date of Patent: June 29, 1982Inventor: Heinrich Sohnius

Patent number: 4295761Abstract: A resin or grout anchored rock or mine roof nut and anchor assembly including an elongated cylindrical anchor to be inserted in a bore hole in assembled relation with a nut after insertion of a destructible adhesive resin or grout containing cartridge. The anchor includes an elongated threaded rod to be received in threaded portions of the nut and the nut includes a frangible disc normally held by crimped lip portions forming a stop wall to stop rotation of the nut relative to the anchor when the nut and anchor are assembled at a first relative axial position and operative when the anchor is restrained against rotation in the bore hole by setting of the adhesive resin and torque above a selected threshold is applied to the nut to dilate the crimping and expel the disc to accommodate further threaded insertion of the nut onto the anchor.Type: GrantFiled: December 10, 1979Date of Patent: October 20, 1981Assignee: Stratabolt CorporationInventor: Roger M.
