  • Patent number: 8616868
Abstract: A sealant mold for sealing a domed nutplate unit particularly at a lower region about an adhesively attached interface with a substrate such as an aircraft fuel tank wall. The sealant mold is formed from a lightweight plastic material, and includes an inner cap in combination with an outer skirt to define a gap or trough for receiving and supporting a metered quantity of a curable sealant material. The mold is fitted onto a dome of the nutplate unit with an inner cap inboard edge landed onto a dome shoulder. The outer skirt is then displaced downwardly about the landed inner cap to extrude the sealant material about the lower region of the nutplate unit particularly such as the adhesively attached interface with the substrate. The sealant material is allowed to cure, after which the sealant mold can be stripped quickly and easily from the cured sealant material.

  • Patent number: 8240965
Abstract: A mounting structure is provided which is capable of easily attaching a heat sink irrespective of a thickness of an LSI (Large-Scale Integration circuit) mounted on a printed circuit board. Each female screw metal fitting of each female screw portion is attached on an upper surface of a cylindrical gel in a stacked manner and a lower surface of the cylindrical gel is attached to the printed circuit board. An end portion of each male screw is made to pass through each through-hole of the heat sink so as to be screwed into each of the female screw portions. With a progress of screwing therein, each of the female screw portions is elevated and the cylindrical gel is pulled and elongated. Since a restoring force occurs when the cylindrical gel is elongated, the heat sink is pulled by each of the female screw portions toward the LSI. Thus, variations in height can be accommodated.

Abstract: A non-metallic acoustic and thermal isolating fastener mount comprising a housing 20, a threaded locking plate 30, an elastic diaphragm 40, and an unthreaded spacer 50 is disclosed. The housing 20 includes a cavity 24 and a pair of outwardly extending arms 22. Mounted in the cavity 24 is the treaded locking plate 30. The treaded locking plate 30 is positioned such that a pair of posts 34 lie between a pair of outwardly extending arms 29 of an access opening 26 formed in the top of the housing 20. The elastic diaphragm surrounds the access opening and includes apertures through which a threaded hub 32 and the posts 34 extend. The unthreaded spacer 50 includes a hub having outer diameter that allows it to be press-fit around the hub 32 of the threaded locking plate 30. The housing 20, threaded locking plate 30, and spacer 50 are formed of a high-strength, high-temperature plastic, preferably a fiber reinforced polyamide-imide resin, such as Torlon.TM..

  • Patent number: 4958425
Abstract: An article of knock-down furniture that can be easily assembled by an end-user comprises a plurality of pieces and contact joint arrangements that prevent unwanted separation of the pieces, while permitting the pieces to rotate and flex relative to each other. The contact joint arrangements also have lateral flexibility to permit the pieces to be coupled and shaped into a contour. The contact joint arrangement has a flexible tube that is extended through a continuous bore through each of the pieces. A hanger bolt is threaded into each end of the tube. A cap nut is threaded onto each hanger bolt and is in bearing contact with the end pieces. Each of the cap nuts are tightened against the end surface of the end pieces in order to place the tube in tension. The pieces are, consequently, held in longitudinal compression between the two cap nuts, while remaining free to rotate about the longitudinal axis of the tube.

  • Patent number: 4923348
Abstract: A protective cap for fastener heads includes a preformed member formed of a naturally tacky compound of unvulcanized butyl rubber, a reinforcing layer of a non-woven polyester fabric, and a silicone-coated polyethylene release liner. The preformed member has a dome-shaped central portion and a surrounding generally flat annular flange. The reinforcing layer of the polyester fabric is disposed over a top surface of the preformed member to form a homogeneous cap construction, and the release liner covers the tacky bottom surface of the preformed member to prevent the cap from adhering to surfaces until ready for use. A plurality of the protective caps are formed in a manipulatable sheet unit and are maintained thereon by the natural tackiness of the unvulcanized butyl rubber compound.

  • Patent number: 4858880
Abstract: Resilient mounting apparatuses are useful for isolating the engine generated vibrations and noise from the frame. The mushroom style resilient mounting apparatuses are generally over designed and add to the cost without any additional benefits. The subject resilient mounting apparatus includes a rebound pad designed to provide high fatigue capacity yet low initial stiffness in a small space and to permit the use of simple manufacturing processes to make it. The primary support includes a skirt which cooperates with the rebound pad to keep foreign material from migrating into an annular space. Thus the subject resilient mounting apparatus meets the functional requirements while avoiding the manufacturing complexity or the extra cost of unneeded material.

  • Patent number: 4854797
Abstract: A threaded fastener comprises a head component for the application of torque to the fastener, an externally threaded shank portion, a resilient linking member for interconnecting the head component and the shank portion a certain axial distance apart and for resiliently biasing against axial displacement of the shank portion from the head component a distance other than such certain axial distance, and a torque transmitting mechanism for transmitting torque from the head component to the shank portion. The torque transmitting mechanism is able to transmit sufficient torque from the head component to the shank portion to cause axial displacement of the shank portion in an aperture in a work piece against the resilient biasing of the resilient linking member, whereby the resilient member is elongated and put in axial tension.

  • Patent number: 4818824
Abstract: Splices between conductors in of an aerial telephone cable are covered by a closure located within a terminal. The closure has a large central section connected via tapered joints to two end sections. A settable liquid encapsulant is received in the central section. The closure has two halves joined by a flexible hinge that runs lengthwise along a first longitudinal edge. Two rigid tabs of nonuniform thickness running lengthwise along a second longitudinal edge are secured by snaps through apertures in the tabs. The snaps have tapered sections that clamp the varying thickness rigid tabs along their lengths to prevent leakage of liquid encapsulant. The end sections have open cell foam strips fitting snugly between the cable and the end section walls which are fixed with the liquid encapsulant. The encapsulant sets within the open cell foam to form a barrier to passage of contaminants into the central section.
