Nut Having Tension Feature Patents (Class 411/917)
  • Patent number: 5083889
Abstract: An apparatus including a plurality of jack bolts which are threadedly engaged with openings in a flange on a fastener to stress a shank part of the fastener. The flange can be a collar retained on a shaft by a retainer, a nut on a threaded end of a bolt, or the head portion of a bolt. The jack bolts can be arranged in a flange on an end of a tension rod to stress arbors against opposite sides of a roll sleeve to form a roll assembly for use in a rolling mill. The apparatus includes structure for preventing escape of the jack bolts from the flange which is particularly advantageous when the apparatus is secured to moving machinery where the presence of escaped jack bolts could cause damage to the machinery.

  • Patent number: 5069587
Abstract: A securing nut apparatus for detachably connecting and clamping a machine component onto a shaft includes a nut hub body having a threaded main bore and a nut outer ring. The nut outer ring cooperates with the nut hub body threadably engaged to the shaft to provide a uniform clamping force to the machine component. A plurality of screws couple the nut outer ring with the nut hub body. A threaded engagement between the screws and threaded openings of the nut hub body forces the nut outer ring therebetween into a high uniform clamping force against the machine component.

  • Patent number: 5050415
Abstract: A method for adjusting and changing the heights of the plane of passage of a material being rolled through rolls of a rolling stand of a shape rolling mill including a flange upsetting stand arranged between two universal stand, the height adjustment for changing the plane of passage of the material being rolled being caused by raising or lowering the rolling stand or parts of the rolling stands carrying these rolls, and the height of the passage plane of the material being rolled through the rolls of this flange upsetting stand being controlled, changed and fixed in the course of the rolling operation for correcting the web central position of a shaped steel profile relative to the adjusted plane of passage of the remaining rolling stands.

  • Patent number: 5046906
Abstract: A hydraulic nut (20) for tensioning a bolt (232) is disclosed having a stepped annular piston (22) slidable within a housing (21) for reducing the complexity of manufacture. The locking collar (27) is threaded to the housing (21) on a buttress thread (28) to minimize distortion due to thread loads and locks against the piston (22) instead of the clamped article for minimizing tensile relaxation during transfer of load from the hydraulic tensioner to the locking collar (27).

  • Patent number: 4660687
Abstract: A railroad vehicle end-of-car center coupler includes a telescopic energy absorber comprising a hollow cylindrical plunger in a cylinder having one closed end. The plunger has an aperture in its inner end wall. A perforated metering tube is fixed in the closed end wall by a special fixing arrangement. It projects through the aperture and carries an annular piston head which slides in the bore of the plunger. A floating piston divides the interior of the plunger into a gas space and a liquid chamber. Four direct acting pressure relief valves are mounted in the piston head. Conduits through the tube connect their inlets to respective ones of four axially-spaced ports in the outer surface of the tube so that they all communicate with the annular chamber that surrounds the tube within the plunger when the absorber is compressed and so that they are progressively cut-off from such communication during the final stages of extension of the absorber.
