Coil Spring Patents (Class 411/929.1)
  • Patent number: 8899896
Abstract: A nut lock includes a nut body, a locking coil, and a cage. The locking coil includes first and second tangs and has an internal diameter that is smaller than the internal diameter of the nut body. The cage is fixed within the nut body and includes a circumferential wall defining first and second stops. The locking coil is located within the cage, and the first and second tangs are positioned proximate the first and second stops of the cage. The first tang engages the first stop when the nut lock is turned in a first direction, and the second tang engages the second stop when the nut lock is turned in a second direction.

  • Patent number: 8876450
Abstract: A locknut includes a body, a locking element, and a cage. The body has a threaded portion and an unthreaded portion. The locking element includes a coil portion having first and second tangs. The locking element is positioned within the cage, and the cage is secured within the unthreaded portion of the body. The cage includes first and second stops, and the first and second tangs of the coil are proximate the stops to be engaged by the stops during rotation of the locknut.

  • Patent number: 8028786
Abstract: A lower rail is fixed to a vehicle floor, and an upper rail is movable in a rear and front direction with respect to the lower rail. A load sensor is fixed to an upper surface of the upper rail. A rectangular frame is attached onto the load sensor, a rod of the load sensor sequentially penetrates a web of the rectangular frame and a spring holder upward, and a coil spring is wound around the rod. A nut is screwed to the rod, and the nut tightens a bottom of a cup portion of the spring holder. The coil spring is sandwiched between a flange of the spring holder and the web and is compressed by tightening the nut.

  • Patent number: 8021093
Abstract: The specification discloses a locking threaded fastener including a body, a coil spring, and a compression ring. The body is hex-shaped and defines a partially threaded bore, an external circumferential groove, and a passage extending radially between the bore and the groove. The coil spring is located within the bore and includes a first end angularly fixed with respect to the body and a second end extending through the passage and into the groove. The compression ring is located within the groove and defines an opening receiving the second end of the coil spring. The compression ring is free to move within the groove and includes portions that extending radially outwardly beyond the flats of the hex shape. When a conventional wrench is engaged with the hex shape, the wrench compresses the compression ring to prevent relative angular movement between the ring and the body. The “locked” compression ring thereby prevents relative angular movement between the second end of the coil spring and the body.

  • Patent number: 7862283
Abstract: A helical-shaped insert to engage a threaded fastener to a receiving member includes a helical coil having a plurality of coil sections having inner and outer surfaces forming a thread shape, and opposing first and second coil end sections. A removable tang extends radially inward from the first coil end section. A continuously curved surface at a finished end of the second coil end section forms a tangent point where the continuously curved surface tangentially meets the second coil end section outer surface. A notch in the first coil end section proximate to the tang and positioned between the inner and outer surfaces permits removal of the tang by mechanical failure at the notch. A second notch in the second coil end section and the continuously curved surface assist coil removal.
