Superposed Nuts Patents (Class 411/931)
  • Patent number: 6010290
Abstract: A single lock nut washer formed of steel or other material to simultaneously lock an inner wheel bearing nut and an outer bearing nut secured to an axle spindle. An annular member has a plurality of outwardly extending tabs that bend over to engage the outer surface of the outer bearing nut to prevent rotation. An inwardly extending lug engages a groove in the axle spindle to prevent rotation of the washer. A plurality of circumferentially arranged bores are each adapted to receive a longitudinally extending pin of the inner bearing nut to prevent relative rotation. The lug is offset from the bores and is preferably oriented circumferentially intermediate one of the bores and a midpoint to an adjacent bore.

  • Patent number: 5688088
Abstract: A torque nut or screw that allows the nut to be tightened to a preset maximum torque, but prevents excess tightening. The nut or screw includes inner and outer threaded elements that extend along the same axis. The outer threaded element is tapered with respect to the axis. The fastener includes an inner fastening member (7) having fastening threads (8) and an outer female member (10) that is rotatable by means of a spanner, a pair of pliers, a screw driver, or other tool. The female member is connected to the inner fastening member by a coupling (13) having a sufficient strength to transfer to the inner fastening member a torque of a magnitude for which the fastening device is designed. The outer female member (10) is designed to be released upon tightening of the coupling and rotated relative to the inner fastening member (7), but not until the predetermined torque is exceeded. The coupling between the outer female (10) and the inner fastening member (7) includes a conical screw coupling.

  • Patent number: 5439337
Abstract: In order to provide a lock nut having a high reliability free from loosening, three nuts are used. The nut closest to the bolt head and the intermediate nut are engaged with each other in only the peripheral direction and do not come into surface-contact with each other in the axial direction, thereby aligning the outer peripheries thereof and forming internal threads on a variety of center bores. Then, the intermediate nut and the outermost nut are brought into press-contact with each other in the axial direction.

  • Patent number: 5391033
Abstract: A tamper-proof, self activating nut lock apparatus comprises a threaded shank having an external screw thread of a first pitch and a coaxial threaded bore at one end of the threaded shank, with an internal screw thread of a second pitch, both the said external and internal screw threads having a same direction of rotation. A shank extension having the external pitch of the first pitch and a coaxial threaded projection of the second pitch is screwed into the threaded bore of the shank and a threaded nut is adapted to engage the external threads of the shank and the shank extension. A friction means, such as a nylon insert, is adapted to engage the shank extension and the threaded nut whereby reverse rotation of the nut to remove the nut from the shank without appropriate tools rotates the shank extension for jamming the nut on the threaded shank to prevent removal of the nut.

  • Patent number: 5248232
Abstract: The nut includes a first half having a short shank with an internal screw thread therethrough and an external screw thread on the short shank and a second half with a threaded bore. The internal thread has a first pitch and the external thread has a second screw pitch, the second and third screw pitches having different vertical lengths. The threaded bore includes a first section and a second section wider than the first section and the length of the short shank. The first section has a screw pitch equal to the first screw pitch and the second section has a third screw pitch slightly finer than that of the second screw pitch.

  • Patent number: 5154560
Abstract: A self-locking lock nut assembly comprising working nut part (9) possessing a split annular sleeve extension upon which is mounted by springing locking part (10), which utilizes only the energy of vibration to translate counter-clockwise rotation of locking nut part (10) in a disengaging mode into a radial grip onto threaded bolt (6) through the split annular sleeve of working nut part (9) to prevent loosening counter-clockwise rotation of working nut part (9). The self-locking lock nut assembly possesses the capacity for a dynamic locking response to all modalities, directions and intensities of vibrational input to the degree required and proportional to the energy of vibration.
