Edge Binding Apparatus Patents (Class 412/33)
  • Publication number: 20100254781
Abstract: A sheet binding device and a binding method capable of binding stable sheets independently of sheet shape dimensions. The device operates by feeding a paper strap by strap feed rollers and a tape catcher, whereby the paper strap is clamped and rotated along a locus. In synchronization with this rotation, one hundred sheets are conveyed from left to right. The paper strap is wound round the one hundred sheets. A strap has a contact portion at its end, and the contact portion is permitted to make contact with the paper strap, and a cylindrical body is rotated at an angle formed between the one hundred sheets and the paper strap can be adjusted. If the angle of the binding portion exceeds one hundred sheets, the excess page count is equalized to an allowable value by the strap, thus preventing the curling of the sheets.

Abstract: The present invention comprises a document binder assembly which may be printed commonly available office equipment, which results in a document binder assembly with exponentially wider distribution, use and much lower cost to the user when compared to the prior art. A slide and spacer in the document binder assembly operate to attach a cover to a bound document. Said cover may be received by a standard printer, wherein a user may print text, logos, graphics, or other desired material onto the cover. Optionally, an adhesive strip may be mounted to the spine of the document to reinforce the strength of the document binder assembly. The result is a document binder assembly useful for making short run full dress documents may be printed on commonly available office equipment, singly or in quantity, and offering highly desirable combination of low cost, professional appearance, and ease of decoration on all surfaces.

  • Patent number: 7407356
Abstract: A book binding machine has a page-forming mode and a spiral-binding mode, where a curved inexpensive piece of binding spiral coil or a convex member form a collection of pages being bound into a concavity on the spine of the pages to be bound with a proper pitch angle to accept insertion of a plastic spiral binding coil. An optional pivoting page-forming carriage and an optional pivoting cutter/crimper are respectively movable between engaged and disengaged positions. The book forming bar is optionally moved out of the way in an intermediate position while the spiral is spun into the perforations. Then the brackets place the cutter bar in position. Pulsed air is preferably used to operate the vibrator and the exhaust pulsed air is fed to a page aerating manifold to keep pages from clinging to each other prior to the sheets being clamped before insertion of the plastic spiral coil.

Abstract: An improved manufacturing method for the hole-punching assembly of a hole-punching unit is disclosed. The method of the present invention comprises the following steps: (1) forming a plurality of aluminum balancing pieces with a rectangular shape by extrusion, and forming an indentation area on one side of each balancing piece; (2) forming an elongated slot by an application of stamping on the indentation area of each balancing piece; (3) obtaining a plurality of rectangular pieces (the number of which equals that of the balancing pieces), made of iron, and forming a row of holes by a single application of stamping on each rectangular piece; and (4) fitting each of the rectangular pieces onto the indentation area of a balancing piece, and connecting the balancing pieces together by screws or bolts. The manufacturing method can lower the production cost and simplify the production process of the hole-punching assembly.

  • Patent number: 7354232
Abstract: A stack of pages can be bound along a binding edge to form a book by positioning a first side of an elongated conductive metal foil strip in contact with the binding edge. The strip has opposed ends, opposed side edges extending between the ends, and an adhesive with a predetermined melting temperature in contact with at least a portion of a first side thereof. The strip has been altered from a first configuration to a second configuration so as to enhance a resistance of the strip between the ends from a first value to a second value substantially greater than the first value. A voltage is applied across the strip sufficient to melt the adhesive to bind the stack of pages together along the binding edge.
