Including Work Feeding Patents (Class 413/3)
  • Patent number: 9776761
Abstract: To manufacture a metal can having a tear-open lid and having a storage space for an object above the tear-open lid, the following procedure is used: first, a top edge of the can which has a smaller diameter than the inside diameter of the can body is formed, wherein a transition region (6) is formed. After the tear-open lid has been attached, this transition region is deep drawn so that the tear-open lid (2) is displaced towards the bottom (5) of the can. This produces the storage space. This procedure allows previously formed tear-open lids to be used, which safely guarantees the imperviousness of the seal of the tear-open lid.

  • Patent number: 8850861
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing a circular cylindrical body (10) comprising a workable mass, having at least one helical internal cavity extending in the interior of the body. The body (10) is initially produced with a straight internal recess, for example by means of extrusion. Afterwards the body is cut to a defined length. The body (10) that has been cut to length is then subjected to a rolling process by means of a friction surface arrangement (23) while being supported over the entire length thereof on a support means (16). The rolling process takes place in multiple steps, wherein a rolling movement using a first axis of rotation (25) is performed in a first step, and a rolling movement using a second axis of rotation (26) that is different from the first axis of rotation is used in a second step. The invention also relates to an apparatus for performing the method.

  • Patent number: 8641348
Abstract: A table (31) is located in a first position and a second position which is rotated at 90 degrees from the first position. A cover (27) is arranged on a top face of the table (31) and fixed to the table (31) by fixing means (32a, 32b). Cardboards are preliminarily attached to predetermined positions on a rear face of the cover (27), and an outer margin of a predetermined width is formed outside the cardboard. Folding units (35) are arranged on either side of the table (31), and guided by guide rails (34) for reciprocal linear movement in directions toward and away from the table (31). The folding units (35) are located in an outer margin folding position at which said folding units (35) engage with the cover (27) on the table (31) and fold the outer margin of the cover (27) so as to attach the outer margin to the cardboards, and a standby position at which the folding units (35) separate from the cover (27). A control unit controls the table (31) and the folding units (35).

  • Patent number: 7584639
Abstract: The aim of the invention is to produce can bodies (24?) comprising a can shell (24) and a closing element (31b, 32, 31a) that is fixed to one face of the can shell (24). Said aim is achieved by producing a tube (11) from a metal strip (1), optionally from directly adjacent sections (112), by means of a shaping step, at least one optional cutting step, and a continuous welding step, sections of said tube (11) being used as closed convex surfaces for cans. The sections are shaped by a shell-shaping device in such a way that can shells (24) are provided into which a closing element (31b, 32, 31a), especially a can bottom (31b), can be inserted. The longitudinal seam (11a, 124) can be produced inexpensively and at great precision essentially as a continuous seam in the welding step by means of simple installations.

  • Publication number: 20080216538
Abstract: A can shaping process in which container preforms (F) are mounted on a table (16) which is rotated so a preform is moved from an initial loading station (P1) to a molding station (P4). A molding unit (20) includes a two-part mold (20a, 20b) split vertically in half, with inner surfaces (56) of the respective mold halves shaped to produce a desired container profile. Once the preform is in place, a pressurization unit (102) is lowered into place from above the mold onto an open, upper end of the preform. The mold is then closed and pressurized air is introduced into the preform. The air pressure forces the sidewall of the preform outwardly against the inner surface of the mold to conform the shape of the container to a desired profile. After the shaping operation is complete, the pressurized air is withdrawn from the container, the mold halves are moved apart from each other, opening the mold.

  • Patent number: 6854947
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing a design tab end of a beverage can, in which a base color is painted on an aluminum tab coil before forming a tab, and a design is printed on the surface of the tab coil on which the base color has been painted, thereby making the color of the tab gorgeous and raising the value of the product.

  • Patent number: 6616392
Abstract: A method and apparatus for regulating the throughput of a rotary turret heat-sealing machine, without changing the rotational speed of the rotary turret. An indexing clutch is controlled to feed cans into the rotary turret such that only a predetermined number of sealing heads are used to seal cans fed therein. The predetermined number of cans is calculated based on a desired throughput rate. Dwell times, temperatures, and pressures can remain constant while varying radically the can throughput.

  • Patent number: 6554556
Abstract: For the manufacture of a ring part out of a flat sheet-metal part to form a lid for a lid of a can. A hot-sealable coating is provided on one side of the sheet-metal part which is then shaped into a cylindrical tube with the coating being on the inside. The axially extending edges of the tube are joined together to form a butt-joint and the inside surface thereof pressed against a cooling plate. A butt-joint welding seam is then created by means of a laser jet. The tube is separated into equal length tube sections and each is conically enlarged at one end. The other end of each tube section is bent radially inwardly to form a bearing surface for a tear-off foil. By flanging the conically enlarged end, an annular flange is created to receive a body of a can.

  • Patent number: 6481261
Abstract: There is described a feed mechanism for a feed table for translating sheet metal blanks from as automatic notching curling and beading machine to a bodymaker in the process of tin box manufacture. The mechanism comprises a pair of reciprocally drives longitudinal feed bars provided with spring loaded pawls in their upper surfaces which engage behind the edges of the blanks during a forward motion and slide beneath the blanks during a reverse motion. The difficulty of altering the lateral displacement of the respective feed bars to allow the table to transfer blanks of different sizes is overcome by using a telescopic fixing member which can be extended to an infinitesimal degree and then secured. In practice, both the longitudinal feed bars are secured to a reciprocally driven transfer table within the stationary feed table, and it is the connection of the feed bars to this table that is achieved with telescopic fixing members.

  • Patent number: 4998911
Abstract: An apparatus 10 controls the orientation of a lid section 16 prior to mating the lid section 16 with a pail section 14 to form a complete container 17. The lid section 16 has bunghole 18 of a preselected diameter positioned at a preselected radial distance from the center of the lid section 16. The bunghole 18 is defined by an annular wall extending a preselected distance from a lower surface of the lid section 16. A first plate 54 receives the lid section 16 with the bunghole 18 extending into a central passage 56. The central passage 56 extends athrough 56 the plate 54 with an upper section 58 of the passage 56 having a preselected width at least twice the preselected radial distance of the bunghole 18 from the center of the lid section 16. A lower section 60 of the passage 56 has a preselected width at least as wide the bunghole diameter.

  • Patent number: 4341498
Abstract: A method and apparatus for blanking, folding and inserting induction heat sealable membranes, having a disc and integral tab portion, in container covercaps in one continuous punch stroke. The tab portion is blanked from foil stock and folding of the tab is initiated during tab blanking along a fold line located at the periphery of the disc portion. The disc portion of the membrane is then blanked while continuing to fold the tab portion to an intermediate reverse folded position. The blanked membrane is then inserted into an overcap to press the tab between the membrane disc portion and the covercap to further fold the tab along the fold line.
