  • Patent number: 9303473
Abstract: A crane control system for determining a suitable real-time operating regime for a crane arranged to lift cargo from a marine vessel, the system includes an imaging means associated with the crane, a processing means, and a memory means. The imaging means is arranged to capture images of the vessel when it is located generally below the crane and within the operational range of the crane. The processing means is operable to calculate from the captured images movement parameters characterizing the movement of the vessel relative to the crane. The memory contains performance data representative of the performance characteristics of the crane and cargo data representative of the weight of individual items of said cargo. The processing means is further configured to compare the calculated movement parameters to the performance data and the cargo data and to determine from said comparison a safe operating regime for the crane.

  • Patent number: 8894342
Abstract: A retractable boarding assembly for use with a marine vessel mounted on a boat lift includes an elongate ramp pivotally mounted to a dock or other structure adjacent to the boat lift and supported boat. There is a directional pulley supported above a body of water adjacent to the dock. An elongate cable or marine rope engages the pulley. A first end of the cable is secured to a lift platform of the boat lift. An opposite, second end of the cable is secured to the ramp. Raising the boat lift with a boat supported thereon allows the ramp to pull the attached cable across the pulley until the boarding ramp is pivotally deployed to engage a deck of the supported boat. Alternatively, when the boat lift is lowered to introduce the boat into the water, the lift platform pulls the cable through the directional pulley such that the boarding ramp is pivotally retracted and disengaged from the deck of the boat.

  • Patent number: 8757954
Abstract: The maritime transfer system is for crewmember safety when transferring to and from a vessel to a small oil or gas production platform that otherwise has only a swing rope for transfer. The system includes a platform extension permanently affixed to the platform, and a motor and winch installed on the extension. The motor and winch operate a cable that extends to a davit, the davit and cable suspending a car or gondola therefrom. Control is provided by a remote control switch installed on the distal end of a freely suspended control cable. In this manner, the car may be raised to the platform when not in use, the control hanging from the control cable for access from the crew vessel when needed. The crewmember may then carry the control with him or her in the car as it is raised and lowered to and from the platform.

  • Patent number: 7556471
Abstract: The present invention's vehicle, suitable for being hoisted while carrying people between destinations, is compactable and de-compactable. As typically embodied, the vehicle includes a box-shaped open frame, plural chairs, and a shock-absorbent base. The frame includes a rectangular floor panel, a rectangular ceiling panel, and four posts connecting the floor and ceiling panels. Each post is foldable via a medial hinge to half its unfolded length, and is attached in a hinged manner at its opposite ends to respective corner portions of the floor panel and the ceiling panel. Each chair is mounted on the floor panel and can be folded down to a position adjacent to the top surface of the floor panel using hinges variously connecting chair components including a seat, a chair back, two side safety restraints, and a chair support. The shock-absorbent base is solid or inflatable and is attached beneath the floor panel.

  • Patent number: 6659703
Abstract: An apparatus for use on a vessel and for gaining access to a fixed structure such as a marine platform. As shown a supply vessel (1) has located on the deck (2) a mounting (3) which is connected by a gimbal arrangement (30) to a support arm (4) carrying a boom assembly (5) with a capsule (6) for personnel. The arm (4), boom (5) and capsule (6) are controlled in position by hydraulic means (9, 31, 33, 36, 40, 41, 52) to be manoeuvred into a required position to transfer personnel to the platform or decking (7) for example. In order to stabilise the position of the capsule (6) relative to the platform (7) the hydraulic means (9, 31, 33, 36, 40, 41, 52) is dynamically controlled to compensate for movement of the vessel (1) such that the capsule (6) will remain substantially in the selected spatial position relative to the platform (7). The capsule (6) may include a control system which enables an operator to statically position the capsule (6) through control of the overall systems.
