  • Patent number: 5655452
Abstract: The primary function of the optional handler is to make plates available on demand to the imaging engine. A multitude of plates are stored inside cassettes and these cassettes are loaded into the handler. There may be up to four cassettes residing in the handler. Inside a cassette there may be a protective interleaf sheet, sometimes called a slip sheet, between each plate which is removed by the handler and discarded. The handler receives commands from the engine control sequencer which provides instructions as to what cassette needs to be accessed to make a plate available to the picker mechanism so the plate may be conveyed to the imaging engine. Conversely the handler provides status information to the engine to make full interaction with the system possible.

  • Patent number: 4995778
Abstract: The present invention relates to a gripping apparatus for carrying along a adhesive panel of material and includes a carriage which is movably guided in the longitudinal direction of the panel and a holding tong disposed on the carriage with its long arms being configured to be adhesion reducing on their interior sides. To improve the economy and operational reliability of the gripping apparatus, it is proposed to equip the interior sides of the tong arms with a continuous adhesion reducing sheet which is pre-tensioned by means of a tensioning frame and to make the adhesion reducing sheet movable with a carriage. Displacement of the holding tongs, which is caused by the movement of the carriage results in a movement of the adhesion reducing sheet in the direction toward the front sections of the tong arms at the same velocity in opposite directions.

  • Patent number: 4655662
Abstract: A gripper mechanism for feeding a pair of elongate strips such as a pair of slide fastener stringers has a pair of gripper holders supporting a pair of grippers for gripping the slide fastener stringers, respectively, and a pair of sliders joined to the gripper holders, respectively, and slidably disposed in a housing for independent movement therein. In response to engagement with a cam on a feed path, the grippers are opened to grip or release the slide fastener stringers. The grippers are normally urged by a spring to clamp the slide fastener stringers. A pinion is angularly movably supported on a slide block in the housing and held in mesh with a pair of racks, respectively, of the sliders. A spring acts between the housing and the slide block for normally urging the slide block in a direction to move the gripper holders into abutment against the housing. The gripper holders can be moved relatively to each other toward and away from the housing.

  • Patent number: 4545517
Abstract: A forms leader is disclosed for use in printing of business forms by a printing device. The leader includes a rectangular sheet of flexible material having a series of line holes formed along the edges of the sheet. The sheet is folded along a crease to define a front portion of the sheet which is of less length than a rear portion. The crease is further positioned so that the line holes formed on the front portion align with those of the rear portion. An adhesive strip is formed across the front surface of the rear portion of the sheet, the strip being positioned along the surface so that at least a portion thereof is above a line corresponding to the bottom edge of the front portion. The adhesive has a relatively low tack, whereby the form can be removably secured to the adhesive with the front portion of the sheet extending over a portion of the form and the line holes of the form aligning with those of the sheet.

Abstract: An expandable modular housing is adjustably positioned with its open entrance side adjacent the output end of a conveyor feeding one or more lanes of parts. Affixed to the undersurface of the top of the housing are a pair of normally open jaws aligned with each lane. Each pair of jaws is movable along guide rails, in the direction of conveyor movement, between a first position where the jaws are opened and situated to receive a part from the conveyor, the presence of which is sensed to close the jaws and cause movement of the jaws through a second position, wherein the jaws are caused to open to release the part, to a third position, spaced from the second position, along the same direction. Below the path of movement of each pair of jaws is a position adjustable stacking table having interchangeable surfaces of different shapes onto which each part is placed in succession. The second position of the jaws is adjustable with respect to the first position to accommodate different length parts.
