  • Patent number: 5595442
Abstract: A tumbler loader assembly is capable of moving a container to be tumbled from a conveyor loading area into a tumbler device using a feed cart while maintaining a low cart profile. The feed cart is capable of moving the container on conveyor rollers along the feed cart as well as having the capability for movement along a guide rail from a first position where the container is loaded onto the feed cart to a second position interior of the tumbler. The tumbler device has raising and lowering capability for interengaging the feed cart as well as for positioning the container for proper tumbling. Upon loading of the container onto the feed cart, the feed cart moves along the guide rail into the tumbler. The tumbler lowers to interengage the feed cart. The feed cart then transfers the container into the tumbler and the tumbler raises to allow the feed cart to return to its starting position.

  • Patent number: 5573367
Abstract: The present invention provides a nestable intermodal container for hauling materials. In one embodiment, this container includes a bottom wall; a plurality of sidewalls sloped generally outwardly from the bottom wall, the sidewalls and bottom wall defining an interior of the container, and the sidewalls having an upper perimeter defining an opening that is larger that the bottom wall; lifting members attached to at least two opposing sidewalls, each of the lifting members being adapted to engage a crane and a vertical wall of a rail car. The bottom wall, sidewalls and lifting members are desirably configured so that the container may be substantially received in another substantially similar container. In a method of the invention, a number of such containers can be used. These containers are filled at a collection site, transported to a processing site located remotely from the collection site for at least a distance on the back haul leg of a rail route and emptied at the processing site.

Abstract: An improved method and apparatus for emptying a load of multilayer container columns is disclosed. An improved multilayer container column construction includes a plurality of vertically aligned and stacked containers connected to one another by hinges along their lower front edges. The containers have lift arms connected to their back sides so that they can be lifted forward about their hinged edges for emptying their contents through discharge gate sides. Automated gate opening apparatus is provided for selectively opening the container gates. Automated lifting apparatus, generally located at a processing plant, is configured to sequentially tilt the containers of the container column load while still on the transport truck, to systematically gently unload the container contents, one level at a time into an accompanying discharge collector.

  • Patent number: 5448604
Abstract: A transport, storage, monitoring, and retrieval system for casks including intermediate storage of spent fuel rods from nuclear power plants. The system consists of a powered rail transport car which carries a cask standing on its end. A cross-ways traveling powered rail "under car" unit carries the rail transport car and loaded cask transversely on rails underneath to align with a bay rail which the powered rail car traverses to the cask storage location. Bridge cranes off-load the casks and with monitoring equipment perform remote cask inspections. Bay rails and a pair of cross-ways traveling "under car" units serve for movement of both the transport car and the bridge units. Casks are located automatically at specific addresses for inventory control and data logging of radioactive emissions. The system may operate remotely and cask conditions are monitored from automated retrieved collected at an off-site data base.

  • Patent number: 5437528
Abstract: A novel mechanism is presented that is able to harvest and load and to unload and install large rolls of sod with only one worker. It is equally useful with conventional sods grown on soil as well as sods grown over an impervious surface. The device is attached by a shiftable bracket to the utility mounting plate and hydraulics of a suitable tractor, skid steer loader, or modified fork lift. It consists of a steel spear or prong attached to a clevis that rotates slightly more than 180 degrees. Cones are placed on the hinged spear and these position PVC pipe or other tubing of the same length as the sod roll desired. The spear with cone(s) and tubing is placed at a right angle, either to the left or right, of the direction of the loader and dropped to the surface at the end of a cut sheet of sod. Small protrusions or prongs on the surface of the tubing lightly grasp the sod and begin rolling it up on the tubing.
