  • Patent number: 4735424
Abstract: A utility hand cart is disclosed which is particularly suited for use in lifting and transporting bulky heavy objects, such as automobile transmissions, air conditioner compressors, etc. The cart comprises a lower U-shaped rectangular frame and an elongated inverted U-shaped handle having its lower open ends pivotally attached to each side of the lower frame. Wheels are rotatably mounted on a bracket beneath each side of the handle and move therewith to engage the lower frame member. In use, the cart is wheeled into position and the handle is raised to pivot the front end of the lower frame about the wheel axis to contact the floor surface and the front of the lower frame is slid beneath the object to be lifted. When properly positioned, the handle is raised further causing the wheel to pivot upwardly relative to the lower frame until the lower frame is resting horizontally on the floor. When the handle is released, a spring returns the handle to the lower position and the wheel axle engages the lower frame.

  • Patent number: 4729711
Abstract: A hand truck for lifting and transporting objects. The truck includes an elongated frame attached to a wheel assembly. A carriage is mounted on the frame to travel the length of the frame. The carriage includes a load bed that extends across the frame, and at least one proturbance located below the load bed that extends above the load bed. A seizing arm is pivotally attached to the carriage above the load body and has a seizing arm with a grip point directed toward the load body. The seizing arm has a stem that extends beyond the pivot point attachment opposite the seizing arm body. A winch with cable are attached to the top of the frame. The free end of the cable is attached to the seizing arm stem. Retracting the cable causes the seizing arm to pivot so the grip point is forced against as object located on the carriage. The force of the seizing arm is sufficient to secure the object between the grip point and the carriage.

  • Patent number: 4728245
Abstract: An improved power assisted hand truck includes a lower frame and an upper, upwardly extending, tilting frame for supporting a load in generally upright and rearwardly tilting orientations. The upper frame is tilted forward by a first hydraulic actuator mounted between the lower and upper frame portions. To stabilize the hand truck while raising the load, a stabilizer, pivotally mounted to the frame, is driven by a second hydraulic actuator mounted between the frame and the stabilizer. The first and second actuators are powered by a hand pump. Pressurizing the retract port of the second actuator causes the stabilizer to move until it contacts the ground. Continued pressurization of the retract port causes the second hydraulic actuator to pull the upper frame towards its rearwardly tilting position. The extend port of the second actuator is then pressurized slightly to cause the stabilizer to pivot away from the ground. The load is lowered by pressurizing the extend port of the first actuator.

  • Patent number: 4362458
Abstract: Apparatus for moving large, heavy, unwieldy objects includes a pair of hand trucks, each of which has a frame with a lift plate slidably mounted in the frame. A jack is positioned on each frame to raise and lower the lift plate. Two pairs of wheels are mounted on the base of each frame with one pair of swivel wheels mounted on the underside of the base and a pair of fixed wheels of larger diameter than the swivel wheels being secured to the base. The perimeters of the fixed wheels are above those of the swivel wheels by a slight distance when the hand trucks are substantially vertical. Large, heavy objects such as refrigerators, vending machines, and the like, are positioned between the trucks and are supported on the lift plates by being positioned on the lift platforms with which each lift plate is provided or by being supported by attachment brackets to the lift plates. The weight of the object is transferred to the wheels of the trucks by operating the jacks to raise the lift plates.

  • Patent number: 4321004
Abstract: A self-loading and unloading carpet cart is a light-weight, two-wheeled, tiltable cart having an endless belt conveyor centered above and between the wheels. A dual-drum winch is mounted forwardly of the wheels. For loading a carpet roll on the conveyor, the cart is positioned at one end of the roll with the conveyor aligned lengthwise with the roll. A cable connected to each winch drum is extensible rearwardly along the sides of the conveyor to connect to opposite sides of a carpet roll yoke. The yoke is adapted to engage the remote end of the carpet roll so that the roll can be winched onto the conveyor. A reversible, variable-speed electric motor is drivably connected to the conveyor, wheels and winch via separate clutches. The conveyor, wheels and winch are synchronized so that they can be operated separately or together in various combinations to load, transport, or unload a carpet roll in a variety of situations.

  • Patent number: 4257729
Abstract: A hand truck for transporting loads which obviates the necessity of tilting the load prior to positioning the latter on the hand truck. The hand truck is devoid of any bottom plate and carries a pair of jaws clampable on the top flange, or bead, of a load and which suspends the load along the inclined truck frame when the truck frame is moved about on its wheels. The hand truck is further characterized by the provision of a foot-operated jack mechanism to raise the clamped load along the truck frame, so that the load may be deposited at any desired elevation when its destination is reached. The jaws are so arranged that they automatically increase the clamping pressure clamp on the load bead, or top flange, when the load exerts a downward pull on said jaws.

  • Patent number: 4147373
Abstract: A vehicle tow trailer particularly useful for farm vehicles such as tractors or combines having an underslung frame with cradles for receiving the front wheels of the vehicle. The trailer is arranged with steerable wheels which track the angular relationship of a tow bar. Light weight towing vehicles can tow heavy equipment by arranging the cradles to position the axes of rotation of the trailer supported wheels of the towed vehicle ahead of the axis of rotation of the trailer wheels thereby loading the towing vehicle through the tow bar to give it better traction. The towed vehicle is afforded an abutment bar near the center of the cradle supported wheels to prevent the overrun of the towed vehicle on the towing vehicle and to provide a means for securing the towed vehicle to the trailer as by a chain. The underslung trailer body has skids on its underbody to facilitate traversing rough terrain as where a trailer wheel falls into a hole.
