  • Publication number: 20100178143
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for transporting a container on a trailer. In some embodiments, the containers are modular, and the trailer can accommodate one or two containers. In some embodiments, the trailer has a U-shaped platform that can be lowered to slide inbetween the bottom of the containers and the roadway for purposes of loading the containers. The trailer can then be restored to a transport position for moving the containers over a roadway.

Abstract: The present invention teaches that air may be injected into the sloping bottom of a bulk dry particulate cargo container (micron-sized through quarry-sized dry particulate) accompanied by traditional conveyance-variety pneumatic air, causing the bulk dry particulate cargo to enter a bi-phase state having an air matrix with particulate inclusions. The result of this air lubrication is a dramatically reduced coefficient of friction. This bi-phase material may be extremely fluid, easily exiting a discharge port without regard to normal bulk dry particulate friction or angle of repose. The present invention also teaches a cargo container having a plurality of air injectors on the sloping bottom of a particulate plenum and having air supply apparatus feeding the air injectors.

The locking mechanism operates to secure a movable arm to the pivot frame 2 to stop pivotal movement relative to one another, which also facilitates the movement required for dumping of the contents of the container while mounted on the vehicle. The Locking device is automatically allowed to move to the locked position by the movement of the jib away from the arm, preferably in a telescoping manner. This movement occurs as the last step in the sequence of container loading to thereby automatically provide locking between the arm and the pivot frame 2 to prevent pivotal relative movement therebetween whenever the container is in the loaded position or is in dumping mode.

  • Patent number: 7104425
Abstract: A method for loading and unloading of dry bulk freight containers vertically, and a device in the form of an improved intermodal dry bulk freight container for vertical loading and unloading. Standardized corner locks may be used and dimensions may be selected so as to provide a standardized cargo container. The present invention teaches that an intermodal dry bulk freight container may be loaded in either the customary horizontal orientation of such devices, or in a vertical orientation in which one end is opened and elevated. In particular, however, such a container may advantageously be emptied by elevating it into the vertical orientation. The method of the invention is thus to provide only a single hopper and yet allow one hopper to empty the entire container, as well as providing a more efficient gravity feed of bulk cargo as it is off loaded. The present invention furthermore teaches an intermodal dry bulk freight container suitable for this method of operation.

  • Patent number: 6994509
Abstract: A carriage with a front end and a rear end can be stowed in a truck box or truck platform, and deployed to a position on the ground behind the truck by providing a lift apparatus having a transfer arm with one end pivoted with respect to the truck and the other end pivoted to the front end of the carriage. Guides are mounted on the lift apparatus to guide the carriage during movement. The carriage has wheels adjacent the rear end, and a powered mechanism, typically hydraulic, is adapted to move the transfer arm between its two extreme positions. As the transfer arm begins to move away from the position in which the carriage is stowed in the truck, the front end of the carriage lifts upwardly while the carriage moves rearwardly, supported and guided by roller guides, until the wheels at the rear end of the carriage contact the surface on which the truck is standing. This causes the carriage to disengage from the roller guides and eventually the carriage comes to a stop resting on the surface.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for loading and/or unloading a container, whereby a bundle of goods (t) or several of the same is/are moved at a time into a container (k) or out from the same by a means of transport (1) operating by auxiliary power, such as by a fork-lift loader, truck or like. The container (k) is particularly being loaded by the means of transport (1) with an auxiliary device (2) that is in connection with the above in way transmitting power, with which a bundle of goods (t) being placed on top of a support surface (2b) existing in the auxiliary device, is being pushed into the container or pulled out therefrom furthered by means for movement (2c) belonging to the same. Thee invention also relates to an apparatus for a corresponding purpose and operating according to the method.

Abstract: A hoist for elevating cargo onto the bed of a truck includes a frame (11) which may be mounted to the truck bed, a platform or container (12) which is connected to the frame by a pivoting arm (9), and an arrangement of linkages for rotating the arm (9) to position the platform either on the truck bed or on a loading and unloading position resting on the ground behind the truck. A hydraulic ram (24) is connected to the arm (9) via the linkages, with the linkages being arranged to increase the effective “flow” of the arm to provide a long travel distance of the arm.

Abstract: A load handling systems for manipulating a load onto and off of a vehicle, which moves the load about three axes of rotation during the loading and unloading process and which does not reversibly engage the vehicle. An embodiment is a load handling system that includes three support arms pivotally attached and serially disposed, the support arms being controllably rotated relative to one another by lift mechanisms in a manner that moves a connector for connecting the load handling system to the load about three axes of rotation as it moves from a transit position to a load-disengaging position.

Abstract: Loadhandling equipment enables a vehicle to put down on the ground or pick up a load such as a dumpster and to tip the load, which is provided on a front face with a lifting bar. The equipment includes a deformable and tilting handling arm which can assume, in addition to a transport position and a putting down on the ground or picking up position, a tipping position in which a hook interengages with the lifting bar on the load on being pivoted by a tilting actuator about a transverse pivot axis at the rear of the equipment and spaced downwardly from the longitudinal section of the handling arm. The transverse rear pivot axis is behind and under the side members of the chassis frame of the vehicle and the frame of the equipment has an L-shaped profile with a first branch on top of the side members of the chassis frame. An upper portion of the second branch is against the rear of the side members.

  • Patent number: 6749388
Abstract: A container handling apparatus utilising a cradle (1) having a chassis (2) adapted specifically for attachment to the top of the shipping container (C) and having lifting legs (3) attached to each corner of the chassis and incorporating lifting rams. The legs are pivotably attached at pivot points to the respective corners whereby to be swung between positions extending alongside the chassis in a stored orientation and positions extending downwardly from the chassis in a ground engaging orientation. The pivotable attachments for said lifting legs are such that the positions of the legs can be extended and retracted laterally of the chassis, whilst in the lower ends of said legs carry wheels (8) for mobility whereby the cradle with the legs extending downwardly from the chassis in a ground engaging orientation with, or without, a container suspended beneath said chassis, can be moved from one position to another.

Abstract: An apparatus and a method to remove and install horizontal heat exchanger bundles. A continuous track and a main frame having a carriage frame with vertical hydraulic cylinders are used and achieve the stability necessary to support and level a heat exchanger bundle during removal from its shell at various vertical heights. The preferred configuration allows the main frame, hydraulic cylinders, pads and tracks which provide a large surface area on the ground, to remain on the ground as the hydraulic cylinders raise the carriage frame to the height of the bundle shell to increase stability of the apparatus. Moreover, the tracks allow the self-propelled extractor to move over gravel, asphalt, and/or soft uneven surfaces without becoming embedded into the surface. Alternatively, the carriage frame may be raised or moved using a crane or helicopter by removing the carriage frame from the main frame.
