  • Patent number: 6742979
Abstract: The present invention is for a slide-out cargo container for the baggage compartments of passenger buses. The retractable cargo box would enable luggage to be easily loaded and unloaded, eliminating undue back and shoulder strain from lifting heavy baggage at uncomfortable angles. Made of a strong, lightweight material such as aluminum, the retractable cargo box would be dimensioned to fit inside the existing luggage compartment at the lower side of the bus. Wheels along the lower left and right sides of the box would glide along special guide tracks to allow the container to be easily extended from and retracted into the baggage compartment. Two doors would be located at the front of the cargo box to eliminate the need to lift heavy luggage over the sides of the box. Door stops would ensure proper closure of the doors, and a safety hook would keep the doors from popping open.

Abstract: A frame with a pair of primary tracks is positioned on a vehicle. A platform is connected by a plurality of flexible ties to a like plurality of hangers which travel along the primary tracks. An elevator mechanism winds the flexible ties onto reels to rise the platform toward the primary tracks and unwinds the flexible ties to lower the platform. Extension tracks can be removably aligned with the primary tracks to project beyond the vehicle. By moving the hangers onto the extension tracks, the platform can be removed from the vehicle and then lowered to the ground. The reverse process is employed to move the platform and objects thereon from the ground into the vehicle. The extension tracks with the hangers and platform attached thereto can be detached from the primary tracks and placed on a free standing frame to raise and lower the platform remote from the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 6464274
Abstract: An interlocking slidable assembly useful for movable extensible platforms, such as a movable or sliding floor or plate extension used with the rear cargo areas of a motor vehicle such as a pickup truck. This assembly includes a first and second plurality of rotatable members spaced apart along parallel axes that slidably interlock with the guide members of the rail or rails. Each of the rotatable members is rotatable about a substantially vertical rotational axis and slidably engages the respective guide member of the rail or rails. One of the guide members or the rotatable members have a recess in the periphery thereof to slidably receive the other of the guide and rotatable members. Because the rotatable members rotate about vertical axes, there is better and more even distribution of weight on the weight-bearing surfaces that makes it easier for slidable movement and decreases the amount of wear.

The storage system provides for a platform slidingly received in a vehicle which may be positioned at different heights in relation to the side walls of a vehicle to provide versatility in use. The storage system includes, in relation to each of two opposing interior side walls, mounting means attached to a support assembly. Each support assembly includes a mounting plate connected to an outer track assembly including a plurality of wheel bearings held operatively in place within the outer track assembly, and a locking plate. An inner track assembly slidingly mates with the outer track assembly. A cross member support is connected to the inner track assembly. Extending between the two inner track assemblies upon the two opposing vehicle side walls are at least two cross members supported by the cross member support of each opposing support assembly.

  • Patent number: 5911465
Abstract: A rear seat for a motor vehicle is attached detachably to a ramp member which is disposed on a floor panel such that the ramp member can slide on the floor in a longitudinal direction of the vehicle. Accordingly, when the rear seat needs to be removed from a vehicle compartment in order to make a large space or room for luggage or anything else, the ramp member carrying the rear seat thereon is drawn out of the vehicle. Then the rear seat can be removed to the outside using the ramp member. This makes the removal operation of the rear seat easy and can be performed without getting into the vehicle compartment and carrying the rear seat out of the vehicle compartment. Furthermore, it is also easy to load large sized luggage into the vehicle by putting it on the ramp member outside and then sliding the ramp member with the luggage into the vehicle compartment.

Abstract: A wrecker truck (100) for transporting disabled vehicles is described. The truck includes an under carriage assembly (24), a subframe (10) and a deck (50). The subframe is preferably tiltably mounted on the under carriage assembly (102). The subframe includes a pair of rails (12 and 13) each having an inner rail member (34) and an outer rail member (36). The rail members are mounted parallel to each other and to the longitudinal axis A--A of the truck such that a slot (38) formed between the rail members extends parallel to the longitudinal axis of the truck. The deck is preferably slidably mounted on the subframe. The deck has a pair of T-shaped sliding members (52) mounted on the bottom side (50B) of the deck. The sliding members have a top cross bar (52A) and a vertical bottom bar (52B). Holding braces (46) having a short leg (46A) and a long leg (46B) are mounted along the length of the rail members such that the top leg extends parallel to the top wall of the rail member.

  • Patent number: 5832555
Abstract: A compact movable ramp assembly is provided that can be securely stored beneath a vehicle floor and safely and reliably operated. The ramp assembly comprises a mounting structure having a series of top panels that form the vehicle floor. The ramp assembly also includes a moveable platform that deploys outward from the mounting structure forming an extended ramp from the ground level to the vehicle to allow the passage of passengers across the platform into and out of the vehicle. The compact design of the ramp assembly is achieved by enclosing the motor unit within the ramp assembly and positioning the drive mechanism above the moveable platform but below the top panels of the mounting structure. The platform is formed of two portions pivotally connected by a hinge which enables the platform to pivot downward and allows the ramp assembly to be used in partial stages of deployment.

Abstract: A roll-out deck apparatus is fitted to a pick-up truck, for loading/unloading a snowmobile etc. The deck may be tilted about a hinge pivot at the rear edge of the truck, whereby the deck forms a ramp, up and down which the snowmobile may be manipulated. The apparatus includes an electric winch, located at the front end of the deck, for raising and lowering the deck, about the hinge pivot. A sub-frame of the apparatus is directly hinged to the rear edge of the truck bed; the sub-frame can undergo pivoting or tilting movement about the hinge pivot. A deck-frame is telescopable with respect to the sub-frame, but is otherwise locked to the sub-frame, whereby when the sub-frame tilts the deck-frame tilts in unison.

  • Patent number: 5707203
Abstract: A truck having a flat body is fitted with a tram to unload burdened pallets. The tram travels on rails and rollers fastened to the truck body. A burdened pallet on the tram is to be unloaded from the truck. A winch pulls the tram rearward and as the tram and load begin to tilt, one or more fixed restraining cables control the tilt. On contact with the ground a restraining pin holding the pallet from proceeding down the grade, automatically retracts allowing the pallet and burden to move down the tram. A flat adjustable spring bears against the pallet, reducing its velocity. The truck is moved forward and the pallet and burden rests on the ground. The tram is retracted into the truck by the winch. The truck driver closes the tailgate.

  • Patent number: 5624223
Abstract: A device for carrying and unloading a load of material from a bed on a truck. The device includes a main panel with an upper surface, a forward edge and a lower surface with skid pads or casters for sliding over the surface of the bed of the truck. The device also includes a front panel with an upper surface, a rearward edge, and a lower surface which also includes skid pads or casters for sliding over the surface of the bed of the truck. A front hinge connects the forward edge of the main panel to the rearward edge of the front panel and allows front panel to swing in a direction facing the lower surface of the front panel, so that the load of material together with device can be slid over and out of the bed of a truck when unloading, and so that the front panel swings under the main panel as the load, together with the device, slides out of the bed of the truck, which in turn causes the separation of the load of material from the device when the load is unloaded from the bed of the truck.
