  • Patent number: 5890868
Abstract: A catalyst loading system for utilizing catalyst from a bulk supply located adjacent but not on the upper tube sheet of a catalytic reactor and for mechanized measuring of multiple identical quantities of catalyst and for mechanized loading of catalyst pellets into the reaction tubes of the reactor to achieve even drop rate, compaction and outage of the reaction tubes. A pair of electronic vibrators are mounted to the cart framework and provide for support and vibratory movement of a vibratory tray having a catalyst feed hopper adapted to feed catalyst pellets to a plurality of generally parallel catalyst transfer troughs along which catalyst pellets are moved by vibration of the vibratory tray to a plurality of drop tubes. A compartmented hopper is fixed to the vibratory tray and controllably feeds catalyst pellets into respective catalyst transfer troughs.

  • Patent number: 5176489
Abstract: The leveller bar for leveling a coal heap formed during a charging process under charging holes of an oven compartment of a coke oven block has two vertical plates connected with each other and spaced parallel from each other a distance (a) according to a width of the oven compartment and spaced from each other by spacing rods. Each deflecting and entraining device (2) does not extend over the entire distance a between the vertical plates (1) and the coal deflecting and entraining devices (2) extend alternately successively from one or the other of the plates (1) toward the opposite plate. Advantageously they can be equal-sided angular sections.

  • Patent number: 4555209
Abstract: A leveler bar for a coke oven is controlled in its travel toward and away from the coke side of the oven by semi-automatic means to move the leveler bar during a "cycle" mode through half strokes and during the "finish" mode it performs four "full" strokes of which a full stroke can mean a 3/4 distance of full travel across the oven. Electrical circuitry which modifies or adds to prior art circuitry to accomplish this leveler bar movement is included herein.

  • Patent number: 4491505
Abstract: A coal-leveling apparatus includes a leveling rod supported by a pressing machine for movement through a leveling opening into a mushroom-shaped gas-collecting space to level the coal charged in the coking chamber of a coke oven. The leveling rod includes a head element that carries two support members that can move on pivot levers between an operative position wherein the support members are extended from the head element for support by upwardly-inclined wall surfaces in the mushroom-shaped gas-collecting space. In the inoperative position, the support members are retracted toward both sides of the head element. An actuating rod extends through the leveling rod to the head element. In one embodiment, the actuating rod can be moved in opposite directions of its length. An end of each of the first pivot levers is connected to the actuating rod and the opposite ends of the first levers are connected to second pivot levers.

  • Patent number: 4252494
Abstract: An elongated boom for supporting a tool for conditioning metal or the like within a high temperature furnace. The boom has internal passageway for directing cooling air therethrough so as to reduce the potentially dangerous effects of high temperatures upon the thermally exposed sections of the boom. The boom is supported at one end in a carriage that is arranged to move back and forth within a horizontally aligned gantry to enable a conditioning tool supported in the opposite end of the boom to be readily moved in and out of the furnace. A blower for pumping ambient air into the boom is mounted directly upon the carriage adjacent to the boom eliminating the need for extensive air handling hoses and the like.

  • Patent number: 4239441
Abstract: Apparatus for supporting an extendable, elongated tool-handling boom within a gantry. The back end of the boom is rotatably supported in a carriage that is movably mounted in a gantry while the main body of the boom forward of the carriage is seated upon a rest carried within a cradle which is also movably mounted within the gantry whereby the relative position of the two boom support points can be altered as the boom is extended and retracted within the gantry. The boom is able to be lifted from the cradle seat in the event it becomes hung-up upon an obstacle while in use thereby preventing the boom from being damaged. A shock absorber is operably connected between the cradle and the boom which serves to return the boom to the cradle seat at a controlled rate.

  • Patent number: 4239442
Abstract: Apparatus for manipulating a tool for conditioning material within a high temperature furnace. The tool is secured in one end of an air-cooled boom while the other end of the boom is connected to a carriage that is arranged to move reciprocally within a horizontally-aligned gantry. The gantry, in turn, is adjustably supported upon a chassis mounted turntable that is capable of being driven over the ground by means of a pair of endless treads. The gantry is connected to the turntable by hydraulic lifters which independently raise or lower the gantry at two separate locations along its length to impart an expanded degree of maneuverability to the tool. Shock absorber means are also operatively associated with the boom to prevent the boom structure from being damaged in the event the tool becomes hung up in the furnace.
