Movable About Horizontal Axis Patents (Class 414/620)
  • Patent number: 5513944
Abstract: The disclosure is directed to convert any fork lift truck to a roll turning fork truck by sliding a specially designed rectangular frame onto the truck forks. Two safety chains are incorporated to firmly attach the device to the fork lift carriage. The frame combines a power winch and cable that engages a roll or coil core via a roll center lift in combination with an arm proceeding out from the roll center lift to the outside mid-width of the roll or coil which is attached to an adjustable fixed length chain. By lowering or raising the winch cable past the fixed length chain, rolls can be turned to either a true horizontal or vertical position. The adjustable "L" frame suspends from the fixed length chain at the lowest point with a pivot pin to achieve the turning feature when the winch cable is activated. Even though a fork truck may be stationary, the center lift is free to guide into the roll because the roll center lift is connected to a flexible cable and flexible chain.

  • Patent number: 4227850
Abstract: A paper roll-handling clamp for lift trucks of the pivoted arm type. The pivoting movement of the clamp arms with respect to one another to perform the clamping function is accomplished by use of a generally forwardly extending, selectively extensible and retractible multi-stage telescoping hydraulic piston and cylinder assembly, which gives the clamp arms an exceptionally wide range of motion.

  • Patent number: 4219300
Abstract: A container haulage and dumping attachment for lift trucks includes a rotatable container gripping frame having a plurality of upper and lower tynes which are hydraulically activated to grip an open top container across the top and bottom thereof. The rotatable frame is pivotally mounted between the side walls of a lift frame, which in turn includes a rear wall by which the lift frame and rotatable frame are engaged and lifted by a lift truck. Upon lifting and movement to a dumping area the rotatable frame is activated to rotate forwardly about an axis parallel to the rear wall of the lift frame and transverse to the longitudinal direction of movement of the lift truck, whereby containers may be engaged across the top and bottom, lifted, moved, and tilted forwardly at least 90.degree. to empty the contents from the containers.

  • Patent number: 4209280
Abstract: A load-handling clamp for lift trucks having load-engaging, nonresilient contact pad surfaces specially textured for resisting slippage of the load variably depending on direction of slip. Each load-engaging surface of the contact pads is constructed of a nonresilient material, preferably metal, in which is formed a series of spaced parallel grooves, each having beveled longitudinal edges and lands therebetween, extending generally parallel to the direction of travel of the lift truck. The provision of the grooves and their orientation with respect to the lift truck provide a load-engaging surface having minimal resistance to slippage between pad and load in the direction of travel of the lift truck during engagement of the load by the clamp, but much greater resistance to slippage perpendicular to the grooves for holding the load. In addition, the surface is exceptionally resistant to wear and to clogging with bits of paper or cardboard from the loads handled.

  • Patent number: 4198189
Abstract: A rotator attachment for rotating a load handling mechanism on a lift truck includes a frame carrying an inner gear with external teeth and rotatable about a longitudinal axis of the truck. An outer gear surrounds the inner gear and has a greater number of internal teeth engaging the external teeth of the inner gear. A pair of double-acting hydraulic cylinders connected to the frame and outer gear are operated in sequence to drive the outer gear in a gyratory eccentric path with respect to such axis so as to rotate the inner gear and a connected load handling attachment about such axis. Control valving responsive to the position of the outer gear in its eccentric path is provided for operating the cylinders in the correct sequence for driving the outer gear. Relief valving is provided in conjunction with the control valving for preventing pressure-locking of the cylinders.

  • Patent number: 4177000
Abstract: A selectively rotatable load clamp for lift trucks, having a pair of openable and closable clamp arms. The clamp arms are capable of shifting the position of a load relative to the lift truck by movement of the clamp arms in unison, by which the load may be moved relative to the lift truck between a position of equal extension, wherein the forward ends of the clamp arms extend a substantially equal distance forwardly of the lift truck, and a position of unequal extension wherein the forward end of one clamp arm extends a greater distance forwardly than the forward end of the other clamp arm. The fluid motor apparatus for accomplishing such shifting function is selectively actuatable only in certain predetermined rotation positions of the clamp, that is, those positions where the two clamp arms are disposed at substantially a 45.degree. angle relative to horizontal.

  • Patent number: 4161256
Abstract: A fluid power system having a source of pressurized fluid serving a plurality of separately controllable double-acting fluid motors. A network of selectively operable control valves and hydraulic lines serving the motors is provided, selective ones of the lines being operatively jointly connected to one another and to the control valves in such a way as to reduce the number of hydraulic lines serving the motors to less than the normal number while retaining the separate controllability of the motors. Several different embodiments of the invention are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4160620
Abstract: A lift truck-mounted load clamp for handling paper rolls having selectively openable and closeable opposing clamp arms with elongate, arcuate, concave contact pads hingedly connected to the forward ends of the respective clamp arms. Each contact pad is provided with exceptionally compact, durable restraints which limit the hinged movement of the respective pad, such restraints each comprising a cable having a swaged-on eye at one end pivotally connected to the contact pad and a swaged-on ferrule at the other end which is slidably contained within a yoke mounted on the clamp arm. A pair of such restraints are provided for each respective contact pad, the restraints being located exterior of each longitudinal edge of the clamp arm rather than interior thereof.

  • Patent number: 4143782
Abstract: A rotary device adapted for use with fork-lift trucks, wherein the fork members thereof are mounted to the rotary device and arranged in a normal pick-up position so as to engage a conventional trash container, whereby the container is lifted and rotated about the axis of the device, thereby dumping the trash disposed in the container. The rotary device comprises a rear mounting plate adapted to be secured to the lifting structure of the fork-lift. The plate includes a bearing spindle attached thereto on which a bearing hub is rotatably mounted; and the bearing hub includes a locking drum which is releasably positioned by a locking assembly mounted to one side thereof. Secured to the free end of the bearing hub is a fork-mounting plate whereby the fork members are adapted to be supported thereon, so as to rotate with the bearing hub.
