  • Patent number: 4389154
Abstract: A time delay device for the seat interlock mechanism on a skid-steer loader is disclosed wherein the boom structure will not be rendered inoperable for vertical movement, until the passage of a short predetermined period of time after the seat switch has indicated that the operator has left the loader seat. A solenoid valve is operable to stop the flow of fluid to the hydraulic cylinders moving the boom structure along a generally vertical path. A seat switch connected in the electrical circuit to the solenoid valve activates the solenoid valve to stop the fluid flow if the operator leaves the loader seat. The time delay device includes a capacitor, a resistor and a diode in series-parallel with both the source of electrical current and the solenoid valve and prevents the solenoid valve from restricting the flow of fluid through the hydraulic circuit to the boom lift cylinders for a short period of time after the seat switch has indicated that the operator has left the seat.

  • Patent number: 4359308
Abstract: A counterbalance device for operation with the manipulator of a laser knife in which the moment of the knife is maintained in a balanced state over the entire range of movement of the knife so that the movement of the knife is smooth over its entire range and its operability highly increased. A counterbalance device of the invention is coupled to the manipulator at a fulcrum point. The centers of gravity of the manipulator and counterbalance device are in the same vertical plane. The center of gravity of the counterbalance device is moved in parallel with the movement of the center of gravity of the manipulator. In preferred embodiments, the counterbalance device includes arm sections which are geometrically similar to the arm structure of the manipulator device. A rotatable arm of the counterbalance device is coupled through rotatable links to the corresponding rotatable arm of the manipulator so as to maintain dynamical balance.

  • Patent number: 4268216
Abstract: A wheel-mounted load lifting and transporting machine having load engaging elements at its front end and a counterweight at its rear end, is distinguished by a novel interacting mobility between the counterweight and the load-engaging elements by which the tilting moments imposed upon the machine by the counterweight and by a load suspended from the load engaging elements, at all times offset one another with the result that throughout changes in the location of the picked up load with respect to the wheel locations, a line that passes vertically through the center of gravity of the loaded machine is substantially equispaced from the points at which the wheels of the machine rest upon the ground. For optimum handling of the machine, each of the wheels on which it is mounted is steerable and power driven to the end that the machine can be moved in any direction and along any defined path.

  • Patent number: 4236344
Abstract: A toy having a pivotable component in the form of a construction wheel loader having a shovel, the toy including a manually actuable handle cocking a spring coupled to a slidable member having a rack portion for operating the shovel. Movement of the slidable member during cocking of the handle simultaneously moves a coupler connected to a piston slidable axially within a stationary closed ended cylinder. The piston has a minute aperture in the face thereof with a larger aperture in the skirt thereof with the apertures being on opposite sides of the piston seal. A locking lever coacts with the coupler for retaining the parts in the powered position against the force of the spring. Manual release of the locking lever permits the spring to urge against the slidable member with the two apertures in the piston providing speed regulation during movement of the piston into the cylinder for moving the slidable member gradually.

  • Patent number: 4229136
Abstract: An air pressure counterbalance system is provided for an X Y Z orthogonal manipulator wherein the effect of gravity on a manipulator arm joint is counterbalanced both while hydraulic pressure is supplied to the hydraulic motors and also when the motive power is suspended. The air pressure counterbalance force is produced by a piston operating in an air cylinder in the direction of the gravity axis as the manipulator hand is raised or lowered. A selected constant air pressure is supplied to the counterbalance cylinder through an air pressure regulating system. In a preferred embodiment, a program-controlled counterbalance system is provided wherein the weights of various tools to be grasped by the manipulator fingers during a program are stored in CPU memory. The manipulator program selects the appropriate counterbalancing force to compensate for the predetermined tool weight and adjusts an air pressure regulator accordingly.
