  • Patent number: 4303368
Abstract: The remote docking apparatus comprises a support plate with locking devices mounted thereon. The locking devices are capable of being inserted into tubular members for suspending the support plate therefrom. A vertical member is attached to the support plate with an attachment mechanism attached to the vertical member. A remote access manipulator is capable of being attached to the attachment mechanism so that the vertical member can position the remote access manipulator so that the remote access manipulator can be initially attached to the tubular members in a well defined manner.

  • Patent number: 4280785
Abstract: A pipe, beam or other work piece is detachably secured to a handling device affixed to the extremity of a conventional telescoping crane boom, the handling device including a main frame, a sub-frame, and a work piece support frame. Respective hydraulic actuators selectively position the sub-frame relative to the main frame and the support frame relative to the sub-frame. One actuator rotates the sub-frame about a transverse axis and the other actuator rotates the support frame about a longitudinal axis. The work piece supporting frame includes means for detachably holding a work piece during handling periods, permitting the work piece to be positioned at any desired attitude, orientation and elevation by appropriate actuation of the hydraulic system.

  • Patent number: 4266910
Abstract: An elongated boom including relatively telescoped base and extension sections is provided with the base section pivotally supported from a mount for oscillation relative thereto about a horizontal axis extending transversely of the base section. First motor structure is provided for adjustably extending and retracting the extension section relative to the base section and a second motor structure is operatively connected between the base section and the mount for angularly positioning the base section relative to the mount. A generally horizontal elongated support arm has one end pivotally supported from the extension section free end for oscillation relative thereto about a horizontal axis extending transversely of the arm and extension section and third motor structure is operatively connected between the extension section and the support arm for angularly shifting the latter relative to the former.

  • Patent number: 4266907
Abstract: The manipulation of components of a fluid transmission system, particularly portions of a conduit through which heated gas is delivered to a blast furnace is facilitated by the use of a self-propelled vehicle having mounted thereon a component support mechanism. The vehicle and component support mechanism cooperate to define a pair of displaced vertical pivotal axes whereby the component support mechanism can be readily maneuvered into engagement with the conduit portion to be manipulated. The apparatus is further characterized by a lifting arm assembly which enables the component support mechanism to be raised and lowered without changing the orientation of a supported conduit portion. The present invention relates to a device for handling the various components of an installation for the injection of pre-heated air into a shaft furnace. The invention likewise relates to a multi-purpose self-propelling carriage equipped with a device of this kind.

  • Patent number: 4242900
Abstract: A mechanism for unloading a part which is retracted upwardly with a tool and which remains on the tool as the latter begins its downward stroke. The mechanism includes a tray which initially is moved into position to remove the part from the tool as the tool starts through its downward stroke. After removing the part, the tray catches the part and then shifts clear of the downwardly moving tool and discharges the part.

  • Patent number: 4199294
Abstract: An automatic production machine having a headpiece that is adapted to hold a workpiece and/or a work tool and a support for carrying the headpiece. The headpiece and the support are self-contained units which are independent of each other. The support has a mount for supporting the headpiece for pivotal movement with respect to the support about a transverse pivot axis and a drive for pivoting the headpiece when the same is pivotably supported by the support. The headpiece has a mount capable of being pivotably received by the mount of the support and at least one extension which, when the headpiece is pivotably supported by the support, extends into the support and coacts with the drive such that upon actuation of the latter, the headpiece is pivoted about the transverse pivot axis.
