Hollow Cylinder Handlers Patents (Class 414/910)
  • Patent number: 5681141
Abstract: A tire stacking apparatus includes a base frame with a carriage pivotally mounted on the frame for selective movement between a horizontal loading position and a vertical stacking position. The carriage includes a pair of parallel support members connected to a rotatable axle, and a pair of legs connected to the axle generally perpendicularly to the support members, the leg members and support members connected for rotation on the axle to pivot between the loading and stacking positions. The support members and leg members are spaced apart a distance to support tires therebetween such that a row of vertically oriented tires resting on the support members will be formed in a vertical stack on the carriage leg members when the carriage is pivoted to the stacking position. A cylinder with an extensible plunger rod is operably connected between the base frame and a lever arm connected to the axle to selectively pivot the carriage between the loading and stacking position.

  • Patent number: 5562394
Abstract: Core plugs, which are intended for insertion in the ends of cores on which large rolls of paper are wound, are lifted and maneuvered into position by an apparatus having an elongated horizontal spreader beam that rides on an overhead track. The beam has support arms mounted on each end, the arms being movable horizontally on the beam by a worm gear apparatus. The support arms each carry a hook that reaches downward for grasping of axially extending stubs at the outer ends of core plugs. Each arm has a pneumatically actuated rod with a clamping block on its lower end. The blocks are projectable downward to engage the stubs and secure the core plugs in position on the hooks. Vertical movement of the plugs is provided by a hoist which raises and lowers the beam. With the plugs in place at each end, the paper roll is lifted onto a supporting cradle in position for insertion of spindles of a mill stand. This supports the roll as the paper is being unwound.

  • Patent number: 5513944
Abstract: The disclosure is directed to convert any fork lift truck to a roll turning fork truck by sliding a specially designed rectangular frame onto the truck forks. Two safety chains are incorporated to firmly attach the device to the fork lift carriage. The frame combines a power winch and cable that engages a roll or coil core via a roll center lift in combination with an arm proceeding out from the roll center lift to the outside mid-width of the roll or coil which is attached to an adjustable fixed length chain. By lowering or raising the winch cable past the fixed length chain, rolls can be turned to either a true horizontal or vertical position. The adjustable "L" frame suspends from the fixed length chain at the lowest point with a pivot pin to achieve the turning feature when the winch cable is activated. Even though a fork truck may be stationary, the center lift is free to guide into the roll because the roll center lift is connected to a flexible cable and flexible chain.

Abstract: An upright, particularly for a counterbalanced, high lift truck, comprising first and second telescoping dual mast sections disposed in fore and aft relationship, each section having laterally spaced outer, intermediate, and inner rails, and a load carriage elevatable on the inner rails of the front mast section providing a five-stage, sextuple upright. The carriage has side thrust and vertical guide roller pairs travelling in anti-friction engagement on the inner rails spaced to distribute the forces for reducing roller wear and rail distortion. The carriage has a free lift that leaves the top of the carriage flush with the top of the upright reducing the possibility of ceiling damage. The carriage also does not extend laterally beyond the sides of the mast section to reduce interfering with objects alongside the lift, such as storage racks, when engaging a load. The rails and carriage overlap to a high degree thereby allowing loads to be lifted by a truck having a smaller capacity.

Abstract: An oil tube bundle positioning device (26) for supporting and restraining oil cooler tube bundles (10) so that they can be safely oriented from one position to another, e.g., from a vertical position to a horizontal position, for cleaning and servicing. The positioning device (26) includes a substantially rigid beam element (28), a first plate (30) fixed to the beam element (28) and a second plate (32) movably supported by the beam element (28) and spaced from the first plate (30). The positioning device is designed to receive an oil tube bundle (10) in the spacing between the first and second plates (30, 32). A plurality of tapered dowels (42) extend from each of the first and second plates (30, 32). Each dowel (42) is positioned to engage an end of a tube (14) of the tube bundle (10) upon the tube bundle (10) being received between the first and second plates (30, 32).

Abstract: A simple, double rotary workpiece or cage holder is disclosed for coating articles such as tubes or article-holders. The articles or article holders are supported in oversized support holes or on undersized pegs so that rotation of the cage about a horizontal axis causes gravity-induced precession of the tubes. The center of gravity of the article holders may be displaced so that the article holders are maintained at an acute angle relative to the cage axis, to facilitate coating difficult shapes such as lenses.

Abstract: A pipe centering apparatus is of such a structure that pipes of certain kinds such as aluminum short pipes transported by a conveyor are centered with their longitudinal centers aligned with each other, before the pipes are subjected to chamfering or other processes. The pipe centering apparatus in the invention comprises a pair of right and left gears in mesh with each other and rotatably mounted on a main frame, a pair of right and left racks respectively in mesh with the right and left gears, and a pair of right and left regulators respectively secured to the right and left racks so as to come into contact with ends of the pipes, wherein the gears are rotated to cause the regulators to move towards each other and to contact the pipe ends, thereby precisely centering the pipes even where the pipes are not of strictly the same length.

Abstract: An apparatus for charging and discharging yarn cheeses from cheese frames. A frame has a locking rod extending downwardly therefrom. The frame also supports a vertically traversing carriage. The carriage mounts a pair of gripping arms which extend downwardly therefrom and which are disposed about, and rotatable about, the locking rod. The free end of the locking rod may be expanded to hold yarn cheeses thereon, and the free ends of the gripping arms have grippers to raise or lower a yarn cheese onto or off of the locking rod. Rotation of the arms allows them to be placed within spaces adjacent closely packed yarn cheeses. The entire frame is movable in two directions to properly place the locking rod.

Abstract: The inventive manipulator for heavy loads, preferably printing products in loose scale formation and wound up to form rolls, only has a single pivot pin (35) or joint which, according to the invention, is arranged in such a way that the load (5) can be brought into three main positions orthogonal to one another using this single pivot pin or joint. The load is held by a holding device (33,38). The pivot pin (35) passes through the center of gravity of the load, or the center of gravity is located in the pivot point or fulcrum. This makes it possible to grip in frontal or lateral precise manner heavy loads and subsequently to deposit same on a loading device or in a store without great force expenditure using a drive and/or manually. The invention is also characterized by the combination of an industrial truck (10), a lifting device (11) arranged thereon and a mounted implement (31-38) located on the truck and preferably constituted by the inventive manipulator.
