  • Patent number: 5299905
Abstract: A rope drum gear for a child's toy, for example a toy crane, is constructed such that a child can operate an elevating mechanism and a grab spade by way of ropes via the drum gear. A crank handle for actuating the mechanisms is connected to a split rotating drum by way of crank case wheel. The hub of the crank case is constructed as a sun wheel of a planetary wheel gear, which planetary wheel gear is in turn connected with a first half of the split rope drum. The first half of the split rope drum is connected via a rope to the grab spade operating mechanism. The first half of the drum when rotated engages the second hair by way of a clutch mechanism, the second half of the drum connected by a rope to the elevating mechanism of the crane. In this way, a child can reproduce the operation of a full-scale crane in a manner easy to operate and understand for the child.

  • Patent number: 5048206
Abstract: A combined snow shoveling device and cart for removing snow from surfaces in one mode of operation and for hauling debris in another mode of operation includes a scoop arranged with a reinforced front edge for scooping snow or other material from a surface and temporarily holding the collected material, a support frame arranged with a handle portion and four wheels which are designed for movement across a surface. A first linkage member is attached to the scoop and to the support frame such that as the support frame is pushed across the surface by means of the four wheels resulting in movement of the scoop across that surface. A second linkage member is attached to the first linkage member and to the scoop and is arranged in order to change the orientation of the scoop such that any collected debris or snow can be elevated and moved to a remote site and then the orientation changed again into a dumping mode so as to empty the scoop of any collected material.

  • Patent number: 4236344
Abstract: A toy having a pivotable component in the form of a construction wheel loader having a shovel, the toy including a manually actuable handle cocking a spring coupled to a slidable member having a rack portion for operating the shovel. Movement of the slidable member during cocking of the handle simultaneously moves a coupler connected to a piston slidable axially within a stationary closed ended cylinder. The piston has a minute aperture in the face thereof with a larger aperture in the skirt thereof with the apertures being on opposite sides of the piston seal. A locking lever coacts with the coupler for retaining the parts in the powered position against the force of the spring. Manual release of the locking lever permits the spring to urge against the slidable member with the two apertures in the piston providing speed regulation during movement of the piston into the cylinder for moving the slidable member gradually.
