Runner Supported Portion Engages Shaft Transmission Train (e.g., Peripheral Gear Drive, Etc.) Patents (Class 415/124.1)
  • Patent number: 6824353
Abstract: A water turbine includes a casing, a rotor, a primary drive shaft, a speed-reduction gear set, and an output drive unit. The casing confines a water compartment, and is formed with a water inlet for admitting pressurized water into the water compartment, and a water outlet for discharging the pressurized water from the water compartment. The rotor is mounted rotatably in the water compartment, and is driven rotatably by flow of the pressurized water from the water inlet through the water outlet. The primary drive shaft is coupled to and is co-rotatable with the rotor. The speed-reduction gear set is coupled to and is driven rotatably by the primary drive shaft. The output drive unit is coupled to and is driven rotatably by the speed-reduction gear set.

  • Patent number: 6616403
Abstract: A device for obtaining electric power from moving water, made up of a floating cylindrical body having a first end extending to a second end along a cylindrical surface having at least two blades. Each end of the floating cylindrical body is fixedly connected to a waterwheel sprocket, and rotatably connected to an arm pivotally connected to an anchor. The waterwheel sprockets are connected to a generator sprocket by a drive means. When the new device is placed and held in a body of moving water, the moving water impacts against the blades and causes the floating cylindrical body to rotate. The rotation of the floating cylindrical body causes the first and second waterwheel sprockets to rotate and move the drive means which are connected to a generator and in turn create electricity.

  • Patent number: 6524068
Abstract: A variable pitch aircraft propeller control uses a two-speed planetary gearbox between a turbine engine and an adjustable pitch propeller. For maximum efficiency, the rotation rate of the propeller is high at aircraft take-off to generate maximum static thrust. However, when at high altitude and at high speed, the propeller rotation rate is reduced to hold the vector sum of the aircraft forward speed and the propeller rotational tip speed at the speed that results in the highest efficiency for the propeller. The two-speed transmission supplies these two gear ratios. At takeoff and low altitude flight, a low gear ratio is used. At high altitude, a high gear ratio is used. The gear ratio maybe manually selected by the pilot, or automatically changed by the propeller controller to obtain the best combined efficiency for the engine and the propeller.

Abstract: A centrifugal gas compressor is disclosed that includes an external drive mechanism consisting of a plurality of pulleys arranged to provide an overdrive in rotational speed. The pulleys are connected with belts to provide a reliable, efficient, cost effective, and readily scalable means of power transmission between the associated motor and the compressor.

  • Patent number: 6179553
Abstract: Multiple stage centrifugal pumps have a plurality of rotors arranged on a drive shaft are shown. At least one rotor is formed as a hollow shaft which is rotatably journalled on the drive shaft and which rotates with a speed of rotation n2 which is different from the speed of rotation n1 of the drive shaft. The hollow shaft is driven by a mechanical converter which takes up mechanical power from the drive shaft in the housing and gives it off at a different speed of rotation n2 to the hollow shaft in such a manner that the speed of rotation of a rotor of the first stage is lower in order to produce a lower NPSHR value for the multiple stage pump.
