Double Acting Motor Piston Patents (Class 417/403)
  • Patent number: 4514148
Abstract: An hydraulic cylinder for driving a reciprocating pump at 5000 to 10,000 psi pressures having a separate spool casing which serves as a detachable extension of the cylinder. The detachable spool casing houses in a single grouping seals for the fluid being pumped, seals for the hydraulic fluid driving the piston, a bearing for the piston rod, and lubricating means for the seals and bearings. This construction provides ready access to these parts for repair and assures concentricity between the piston rod and the bearings and seals in which it reciprocates. In one embodiment a wiper ring is provided between seals to scrape from the piston rod abrasive material in the fluid being pumped and discharge it from the cylinder. In another embodiment an external shock absorber decelerates the piston at one end of its extended stroke, the shock absorber also serving to actuate a valve controlling flow of hydraulic fluid to the cylinder.

  • Patent number: 4456438
Abstract: The invention concerns an extrusion device for impregnating rock formations preferably for bonding with a liquid synthetic product, with the use of a piston pump having at least one working cylinder. During the induction or suction stroke a working piston is filled with the extrusion liquid or with one of its components, and is emptied during the delivery stroke cycle. The working piston is controlled by a pump drive equipped with at least one driving cylinder and a driving piston which can be pressurized on both sides of the piston sequentially. A control valve pressurizes the piston surface with a working fluid as the other working surface of the piston is relieved. The extrusion device, can operate with more efficient utilization of the energy source applied and in particular with extremely high operating pressure of the available hydraulic medium, which is already available but used for other purposes, i.e., the operation of the rams or the hydraulic face- and/or roadway supports.

Abstract: An air pressure operated automatic lubricating gun is simplified in its conents and in its assembly to such an extent that this automatic gun can compete economically with manually operated lubricating guns. This improvement has been made possible by locating an air pressure chamber in a main pipe above the high pressure pump and below the air pressure operated motor. The riser pipe for the lubricant is arranged off-center to the central longitudinal axis so as not to interfere with the operation of the centrally located pump piston. The riser pipe passes through the air pressure chamber for a compact assembly. The air pressure supply control means are arranged in the air pressure chamber.

  • Patent number: 4431384
Abstract: A reciprocating food pump for pumping viscous edible material has the cylinder removably clamped to a base plate. The piston of the pump cylinder is actuated by a reciprocating, compressed air motor having a common piston rod connecting the air piston and pump piston. The air cylinder is pivoted to the base plate so that the pump cylinder may be unclamped from the base plate and moved upwards sufficiently to pull the cylinder away from the piston. A rotating plug valve is used on the end of the pump cylinder. The plug is held in place by a stem extending through a flat valve plate. A seal is placed between a sleeve on the end of the valve stem and the valve plate and another seal between the valve stem and the sleeve. Upon each suction stroke of the pump, the vacuum within the pump pulls the valve plug within the cylinder, which will be transmitted to the stem, and increase the pressure between the sleeve and the flat valve plate insuring a good seal upon each suction stroke.

  • Patent number: 4413647
Abstract: A valve includes a plunger which is movable by actuating means such as a solenoid coil, air pressure or other means to move a valve member toward and away from a valve seat. The fluid flow area of the valve is sealed from the actuating means by the diaphragm, O-rings or other forms of sealing structure. In order to insure against leakage past the diaphragm or seal and especially against leakage into the actuating means, the construction includes another diaphragm or seal spaced from the first seal providing a seal space between the first and second diaphragms or seals. In the event of leakage past the first sealing means, flow of the liquid into the space between the first and second sealing means causes an outward flow of the fluid through a detecting passage which thereby provides means which disclose the leakage past the first sealing means so that the first sealing means can be immediately replaced before any damage to the actuating means or to the system itself.

  • Patent number: 4160626
Abstract: A coupling device for coupling two rigid, elongated reciprocating elements while maintaining contact between the elements and eliminating relative longitudinal movement includes a hemispherically faced connector head connected to one of the elements. The coupling device further includes a retainer connected to the other of said elements into which the head is positioned. The connector head is contained in the retainer by a retaining member and biased against a bearing within the retainer by a plurality of Belleville washers. The force developed by the washers is sufficient to maintain the hemispherically faced connector head in contact with the connector bearing to insure that the connector head and bearing do not separate relative to each other during reciprocation of the rigid elements.

  • Patent number: 4160627
Abstract: A hydraulically powered triplex pump having at least three pumping units, each operable in a cycle including suction, precompression and discharge phases, with the cycles being out of phase with one another, whereby simultaneous performance of these functions results in a substantially constant pressure and flow of both the pumped fluid and the power fluid. Separate power and cycle control circuits, which may employ different fluids, are provided. Control valve assemblies, each including two sleeve valves communicating with a common chamber, are operated by the control circuit fluid to condition power circuit flow for various phases of the pumping cycle. Precompression valves, a fill valve and a dump valve are operated by the control circuit to provide additional conditioning of power circuit flow to provide the precompression phase and to correct for variations in pumping unit stroke length.

Abstract: A downhole, hydraulically actuated pump assembly, having an engine reciprocatingly connected to a production pump. Power fluid is conducted downhole to the engine of the pump assembly, while production fluid and spent power fluid is conducted uphole to the surface of the ground. The pump assembly includes a housing within which spaced, axially aligned, cylindrical chambers reciprocatingly receive spaced engine and pump pistons which are connected together in a manner to enable the engine to reciprocate the production pump.A mechanically actuated valve assembly is contained within the engine piston and is arranged respective to various different flow passageways so that flow of power fluid through the engine forces the engine piston to reciprocate. The valve assembly includes a control rod and a valve element concentrically arranged respective to one another and to the engine piston. The valve element is reciprocated respective to the engine piston in response to the reciprocation of the control rod.
