Abstract: An assembly and a method for lubricating an electric submersible pump assembly disposed in a wellbore are described. The assembly includes a pump to pressurize a wellbore fluid and an electric motor to rotate the pump. The electric motor is lubricated by a dielectric oil. A sensor is coupled to the electric motor to sense a condition of the electric motor and transmit a signal including a value representing the condition. A controller is coupled to the electric motor and the sensor. The controller receives the signal from the sensor, compares the value to a threshold value, determines when the value is greater than the threshold value, and responsive to determining that the value is greater than a threshold value indicating a presence of contaminated dielectric oil, flows a clean dielectric oil from an accumulator to the electric motor to expel the contaminated dielectric oil out of the electric motor.

Abstract: A light-weight electric motor driven fluid pump assembly having a molded thermoplastic housing of two parts which form a fluid impervious rotor chamber, a stationary shaft journalled in the housing parts within the chamber and carrying a magnetic rotor and a fluid impeller driven thereby. The housing parts also define inlet and discharge ports in communication with the rotor chamber adjacent the impeller blades. One portion of the housing of one housing part defines a cylindrical thin walled tubular configuration with a cylindrical exterior surface for mounting a stator thereabout. The housing parts are welded together at mating surfaces with the result that neither static nor dynamic seals are required in the assembly.

  • Patent number: 6361272
Abstract: A submersible centrifugal pump for downhole pumping of methane-saturated water from wells drilled in coal formations, has an electric motor-driven vertical shaft having centrifugal impellers distributed therealong, each impeller being located in a stationary diffuser within the pump wall to form a multi-stage pump. A concentric shroud is located at the lower portion of the pump wall. It is sealed with the pump wall such that all fluid to be pumped must enter holes near the top of the shroud and travel downward through an annulus to the pump inlet. A charge impeller and a solids grinder are located at the lower end of the pump central shaft. The multi-stage centrifugal pump is located above the solids grinder and includes multiple compression stages of diminishing volume as the methane and fluid mixture travels upward through the pump. Another charge impeller may be located at the upper end of the shaft at the outlet pipe.

  • Patent number: 6322331
Abstract: A well pump assembly has a tubular junction having a main tube and a bypass tube. An electric motor and seal section hang below the tubular junction in the main tube. The motor is powered by a power cable that extends alongside the tubing to the surface. The motor has an upper end with a drive shaft coupling. The pump for the motor is lowered through the production tubing on a wireline, wire rope or coiled tubing. The pump has a lower end which has a driven shaft coupling that makes up in stabbing engagement with the drive shaft coupling when the pump reaches the motor. The driven shaft coupling includes a guide that slides into a coupling housing. Orientating keys orient the guide and lock it from rotation. The bypass tube of the tubular junction may receive workover tools that are diverted by a wireline tool.

  • Patent number: 6290469
Abstract: A portable, self-contained pump having a battery carried on board. The pump includes a pumping device for forcing liquids to flow, such as those including impellers, plungers or reciprocating pistons, diaphragms, and others, a motor, the battery, electrical circuitry connecting the battery to the motor, and a housing enclosing the aforementioned components. A clip for suspending the pump from the belt of a user is fixed to the housing. The housing also includes an access panel affording access to the interior of the pumping device for service, such as clearing clogs, and a switch for controlling the motor. A threaded inlet nipple and a threaded outlet nipple project from the housing. Accessories for the pump include a stand, a plurality of auxiliary hoses or conduits enabling retrieval and directing discharge of liquids, and an auxiliary liquid receptacle for dispensing liquids from the novel pump. The auxiliary conduits are threaded for enabling connection to the inlet and outlet nipples.

  • Patent number: 6278209
Abstract: Decoupling devices for an electric motor in relation to a housing usually have decoupling bushes made of elastic material, which are disposed between a motor mount and the housing and extend along a bush longitudinal axis. The decoupling device includes a first contact point at which the decoupling device rests against the motor mount, and a second contact point at which the decoupling device rests at least indirectly against the housing, each decoupling bush is secured so that the decoupling bush can be radially deflected in relation to the bush longitudinal axis, by means of which the forces are in fact transmitted, but vibrations are damped or insulated.
