  • Patent number: 9273686
Abstract: A reciprocating pump with chamber-charging mechanism is provided. In an example diaphragm pump, a discharge valve can be opened by the pressure of fluid leaving the pump and can also be opened by an intermittent mechanical linkage actuated by the reciprocating member powering the pump. The discharge valve is mechanically opened to allow pressure backflow into the pumping chamber, thereby charging compressible fluid mixtures and gases with an increase in pressure. The increased pressure enables the compressible fluids to open the discharge valve on the next compression stroke and exit the pump. In an implementation, the discharge valve is pushed open by the reciprocating power source in a configuration that seals the valve mechanism from well fluid. In another implementation, the discharge valve is pulled open to pre-charge the pumping chamber.

  • Patent number: 8579610
Abstract: A downhole pump has a barrel and a plunger. The barrel has a first one-way valve and the plunger has a second one-way valve. The plunger is of the box end type. The pump prevents or minimizes gas lock by achieving high compression in the compression chamber between the two valves. The second valve is located close to the bottom end of the plunger. In the second valve, the valve seat is in contact with the seat plug, which seat plug has a seal. Alternatively, the valve seat is incorporated into the seat plug, which seat plug also has a seal. The plunger lacks reliefs at the bottom end and thereby achieves tight tolerances with the barrel, further contributing to high compression.

  • Patent number: 6224347
Abstract: A pump (10) includes a motor (11) which rotates a pumping assembly (52) which includes a face plate (54) and a cylinder (56). A piston (67) reciprocates in the cylinder (56) to draw fluid into the cylinder (56) from an intake groove (78) and an intake port (76) formed in a manifold plate (73) positioned adjacent to the face plate (54), and to thereafter discharge that fluid to a discharge groove (80) and a discharge port (77) formed in the manifold plate (73). The piston (67) rides on a swash plate (49) as the face plate (54) rotates, and the extent of reciprocation of the piston (67) and therefore the amount of fluid to be dispersed on each reciprocation of the piston (67) is controlled by an adjuster wheel (40) which can be moved to allow the swash plate (49) to pivot a predetermined extent. As such, the pump (10) can dispense a known precise amount of fluid on each reciprocation of the piston (67).

  • Patent number: 6200055
Abstract: A dispensing device including a pump assembly for pumping out the viscous liquid material stored in the device. The pump has a cylinder and a piston disposed within the cylinder, wherein the cylinder includes a cylinder inlet valve and the piston includes a cylinder outlet valve. Each operation of the pump assembly causes the piston to move in a first direction toward the cylinder inlet valve and in a second direction away from the cylinder inlet valve. The movement of the piston in the first direction causes the cylinder inlet valve to close and the cylinder outlet valve to open. The movement of the piston in the second direction causes the cylinder inlet valve to open and the cylinder outlet valve to close.

  • Patent number: 5921759
Abstract: An inverted, displacer type piston pump for metering and dispensing liquids in which the cylinder is located beneath the piston and reciprocated via an actuator below the cylinder, and where the piston is held fixed. The liquid ingress and egress to and from the cylinder of the pump is via a cylindrical port through the piston along its cylindrical axis. The pump is designed so that liquid product loss through the pump is prevented without the use of elastomeric or compliant seals in the liquid contact product areas of the pump. In addition, the pump cylinder is capable of being positioned via its reciprocating actuator such that all of the liquid product contact parts are open and accessible to cleaning and sterilizing fluids which may be introduced into the pump through the liquid product supply port of the pump, thereby enabling cleaning and sterilization of the pump without its disassembly.

  • Patent number: 5593288
Abstract: A liquefied gas pump includes a piston and a cylinder which form a pump chamber into which a liquefied gas entrance path and a liquefied gas discharge path open. Relative upward and downward motion between the piston and cylinder provides a repetition of alternating suction and discharge stroke. Liquefied gas is sucked into the pump chamber through the entrance path during the suction strokes, and is discharged out of the pump chamber through the discharge path during the discharge strokes. A separate bubble discharge path opens into said pump chamber at a location in the bottom of an upward recess formed in the top portion of the pump chamber. The bottom of the recess is located above the location where the opening of the liquefied gas discharge path is formed.

Abstract: A pumping apparatus which is particularly useful in catheterization procedures has two pumps supported in a parallel arrangement. The pumps are engaged by an actuating rod connected to a power cylinder which reciprocates longitudinally between the two pumps. The two pumps are held within the housing such that only the plunger element of one pump is capable of movement in response to the actuating member while only the barrel element of the other pump is capable of movement in response to the actuating member. By way of this linkage, during movement of the actuating rod, one pump performs a pumping stroke while the other pump performs a suction stroke.

Abstract: An apparatus for displacing a high viscous substance, such as grease, which comprises a positive displacement-type pump. The chamber of the pump is in communication with a second chamber defined by a tubular sleeve that is slidably displaceable on the body of the pump, thereby rendering the volume of the second chamber variable and, as such, providing for effective displacement of grease into the chamber of the pump via a valve arrangement. A closure member is disposed to control charging of the second chamber with grease and the displacement of such grease from the second chamber into the chamber of the pump. Also, simultaneously with the charging of the chamber the pump can displace grease therefrom for lubricating or other applications.

  • Patent number: 4586881
Abstract: A compact lightweight engine or pump is constructed having a H-shaped piston, usually double acting. Each end of the piston has extending surfaces which form two moving sidewalls which act with two case sidewalls and a block-shaped head protrusion to define a working chamber with the appropriate top surface of the piston which moves to extract or add energy to the working chamber. Energy is transferred between the piston and a crankshaft by means of a slide block on the crankshaft and the inner surfaces of a pair of parallel walls forming the center of the "H" of the piston, whose opposite surfaces form the piston top surfaces. Through the use of suitable cams and valves, 4-cycle, 2-cylinder equivalent engines can be produced. With suitable porting, baffles, and/or auxillary compression means, 2-cycle engines can also be produced as well as air pumps.
