Abstract: A source of gas pressure from an internal combustion engine is made available by tapping off the exhaust products within the combustion chamber, preferably just prior to exhausting the gas out of the engine. A pressure tap fitting communicates with the combustion chamber through the cylinder wall. The opening into the combustion chamber is closed off during most of the stroke of the engine by the skirt of the piston. As the piston, during the power stroke of the engine, is driven down the cylinder wall, the crown of the piston eventually clears the opening in the pressure tap. The exhaust gas, under very high pressure, enters the tap just prior to dumping the exhaust gas through the exhaust ports of the engine. A control element cooperable with the pump piston controls a flow of fuel in the injection pump. The control element is provided with a bore arrangement by way of which the pump working chamber is connected with a pump pressure chamber. An intermediate chamber is arranged between the pump working chamber and the pump pressure chamber from which two separate feed lines terminate into the pump pressure chamber in such a way that a feed stream of fuel is conducted by way of the first feed line arranged in the control cylinder with temporal interruption by the control element but that this feed stream is constantly conducted by way of the second feed line which acts as a throttle.

  • Patent number: 4189287
Abstract: A brake cylinder includes a housing within which a piston is reciprocable, such piston acting on a cup seal. An annular resilient member of, for example, polyurethane material, is interposed the outer periphery of the cup seal and the adjacent outer periphery of the piston, and cooperates with such piston to engage the inner surface of the bore to prevent any portion of the seal being pinched between a portion of the piston and the inner surface of the bore.

  • Patent number: 4065236
Abstract: The pump piston in a fuel injection pump is provided with longitudinal grooves which provide communication between the pressure chamber and the fuel supply chamber. An annular groove on the pump piston connects the longitudinal grooves so that communication between the pressure chamber and the fuel supply chamber is interrupted only after onset of the axial pressure stroke regardless of prior piston rotation.
