Abstract: A pivot pipe for a two-cylinder thick material sludge pump is designed to reduce the rate of wear of the sealing surfaces and flow bores of the pivot pipe and cooperating outlets on the two pump cylinders. As the pivot pipe oscillates from one pump cylinder to the other pump cylinder the contacting sealing surfaces are subjected to abrasion and impact wear. The present invention limits the rate of wear between the contacting sealing surfaces and a portion of the flow bore by fixing monolithic wearing rings on the upstream end of the pivot pipe and on the outlets of the two pump cylinders. The monolithic wearing rings are made of a hard materials such as cemented tungsten carbide.

  • Patent number: 4907950
Abstract: A fluid pump has two pairs of rectangular oppositely-disposed pistons. The pistons of each pair travel simultaneously in opposite directions at the same speed and over the same distance. Valving is provided by a reciprocating port plate, in face-to-face relation to the piston, driven in a circular path from two spaced crankpins and which in turn drives the associated piston. The sliding movement of the port plate controls the alignment of inlet and exhaust ports in the piston and port plate. The excursion or "throw" of the pistons can be varied from zero to maximum. A crankpin throw-adjusting mechanism simultaneously adjusts the throw of each crankpin, some in one direction, some in the opposite, so that all chambers are automatically adjusted for varying, but always identical, displacements. Self-lubricated seals between the piston and chamber walls are spring loaded, by an elastomerically sealed structure having non-linear deflection-to-force characteristics.

  • Patent number: 4605360
Abstract: A reversible, positive displacement, expansible chamber hydraulic pump with only three moving parts. Intended for manual operation where the creation of high fluid pressures is desired, the pump consists of a rotating input shaft with a single eccentric cam. The cam operates both a piston and a slide valve which are located at a relative angle of ninety degrees from one another about the axis of the cam. The slide valve controls fluid flow to and from the pump cylinder such that fluid flow reverses upon reversal of rotation of the input shaft and such that fluid flow is blocked when the piston is at top or bottom dead center.

  • Patent number: 4482301
Abstract: When a valve-controlled pump is to produce either vacuum or pressure at a pump outlet 9 as a function of its direction of rotation it is necessary that a 3/2-way valve be switched as a function of the direction of rotation of the motor of the pump. In accordance with the invention this is effected by a direction detection device on the motor (1) which is coupled with the motor for the control of the 3/2-way valve. The direction detection device is formed in the manner that the motor housing of the motor (1) is mounted for rotation and is provided at its end with a structural part (11) having a control kidney (10) which is movable over a control surface (7). Since the motor housing must take up the counter moment when the motor is rotating, the control kidney (10) shifts upon the starting of the motor (1) into one of its two end positions depending on the direction of rotation of the motor (1), thereby causing the pump outlet (9) to be connected alternatively to pressure or vacuum.

  • Patent number: 4462768
Abstract: The described air compressor has an annular piston received within a cylinder for reciprocal movement to drive pressurized air on both piston strokes to an outlet which is arranged in line with the air inlet and driving power source. A shuttle valve alternately opens and closes ports at opposite ends of the pump cylinder to accomplish valving for the pressurized air. Rotative drive applied to an axially located rotor within the compressor housing via a planetary gear assembly alternately drives the rotor in opposite directions. A gear on the rotor is drivingly related to gears located on two threaded shafts which pass through threaded openings in the piston. Accordingly, rotation of the rotor drives the annular piston from one extremity to another in the pump cylinder.

Abstract: A cassette and controller for accurately controlling fluid flow through an administration set while maintaining a closed fluid system. Inlet and outlet conduits are defined in a body of the cassette and inlet and outlet valves control fluid flow through the respective conduits. A rigid internal cavity of predetermined volume is also defined in the cassette body with an impermeable and flexible diaphragm spanning the cavity. A control conduit communicates with the internal cavity on an opposite side of the diaphragm from the fluid to alternately exert negative and positive pressure on the diaphragm. Negative pressure causes the diaphragm to conform to the shape of the internal cavity when the inlet valve is open to fill the cavity-shaped diaphragm with fluid from the inlet conduit. Positive pressure against the diaphragm expels fluid from the cavity through the outlet conduit when the outlet valve is opened.
