    Abstract: A screw compressor with liquid injection wherein the units previously disposed separately from one another, such as the air filter, liquid separator, and so on, are integrated into a single housing. Various compartments are formed in the housing by means of partitions, such that the compartments provide for good separation of entrained liquid from the compressed air being achieved because of large flow cross-section, maximum utilization of the available flowpath and multiple deflection of the current of compressed air. The compact construction results in a substantially smaller overall compressor size than that of comparable known compressor plants, in a reduction of manufacturing cost and simplification of the assembly of a compressor plant.

    Abstract: An oil pool in a rotary vane, oil sealed mechanical vacuum pump casing is cooled by air drawn by a relatively low pressure and low speed laminar flow fan mounted on a motor shaft for the pump and positioned in a shroud between end plates for the motor and casing. The air pumped by the fan flows axially relative to the shaft through a horizotally extending slot at the bottom of the shroud and vertically extending slots on the sides of the shroud. The pumped air flows against vertically and horizontally extending fins respectively on the pump casing bottom and sides. The vertically extending fins at the bottom of the casing have bases slightly above the horizontal slot at the bottom of the housing so air flowing through that slot flows against the bases of the fins at a shallow angle. A vertical surface of the housing remote from the fan and the shroud has vertically extending fins that are aligned with the vertically extending fins on the bottom of the casing.

    Abstract: A rotary internal combustion engine having an ellipsoidal wall member which forms an ellipsoidal internal chamber. A drive shaft is rotatably mounted in the housing and extends transversely through the ellipsoidal chamber. A substantially cylindrical rotor is secured to the drive shaft within the chamber and has a plurality of circumferentially equidistantly spaced vane members radially slidably disposed within the rotor. A source of fluid pressure communicates with the radially inner end of the vane members to urge the vane members radially outwardly so that the vane members contact selected circumferential sections of the wall portion. A fuel supply means including a rotary compressor supplies a fuel and air mixture to the rotor which thereafter further compresses the fuel between the rotor, the wall portion, and adjacent vane members. The fuel air mixture is ignited by appropriate ignition means to thereby rotatably drive the drive shaft.

    Abstract: Scroll apparatus for pumping liquids wherein recessed liquid transfer passage means are provided in the end plates of the scroll members. The transfer passage means may be inner passages within the scroll involutes, outer passages outside the scroll involutes or a combination of inner and outer passages. These passages are located and configured to be opened substantially immediately after the orbiting involute wrap has reached that point in its orbiting cycle to define three essentially completely sealed-off liquid zones. These passages remain open at least until the liquid passages between the wraps are sufficiently large to prevent any substantial pressure pulsations within the scroll liquid pump. The scroll liquid pumps may be operated to pump liquid radially inward or outward.

    Abstract: A compressor-expander for use in air conditioning including a chamber of generally elliptical cross section having a compressor side and an expander side each with inlet and outlet ports. Rotatable in the chamber is a vaned rotor defining enclosed compartments in which the air is positively compressed accompanied by an increase in temperature in the compressor side and is positively expanded with a decrease in temperature in the expander side, the elliptical eccentricity of the compressor side being less than 0.62 and the eccentricity on the expander side being less than the eccentricity of the compressor side in a ratio lying between 0.68 and 0.95. Pressure in the compartment at the point of discharge is substantially at atmospheric level, and the expander outlet port is so located that when a compartment on the expander side is centered on the major axis, the leading vane is at the threshold of discharge.

    Abstract: The invention pertains to a rotary machine embodying as major elements a dual rotor consisting of two rotor halves rotating in a circular housing and an oscillator comprised of a cascade of elliptical gears. The periphery of the housing is adapted, with respect to intake, outlet and other necessary means, to suit the purpose for which the machine is intended. The dual rotor has an even number of vanes shaped to best suit the purpose of the machine. Half of the vanes are located on each rotor half in such a manner as to be able to rotate with the rotor halves in the circular housing and to oscillate with respect to each other creating working chambers of varying volume while rotating in the same direction. The oscillations are imposed by the oscillator which includes an input-output shaft integrated with a pair of elliptical gears in the center of the cascade. The space between the dual rotor and the housing and between the respective rotor parts is sealed by a suitable sealing system.
