  • Patent number: 6267572
Abstract: A scroll fluid machine requiring no crank shaft to orbitably support an orbiting scroll member and capable of being reduced in overall size in the axial direction. In a casing, two fixed scroll members are provided on the axis of the casing, and an electric motor is provided between the fixed scroll members. Eccentric bearings each having an outer ring, an intermediate ring and an inner ring are provided between the electric motor and the fixed scroll members. The inner periphery of each intermediate ring is formed with an axis eccentric with respect to the axis of the casing. Orbiting scroll members are integrated with the inner rings through an orbiting shaft. The orbiting shaft is caused to orbit by rotating a rotating shaft with the electric motor, thereby causing the orbiting scroll members to orbit relative to the fixed scroll members.

  • Patent number: 5961297
Abstract: An oil-free two-stage vacuum pump includes first and second pump stages coupled in series. The first and second pump stages have discharge spaces capable of communicating with each other via a bypass passage. The bypass passage is provided with a pressure control valve which is closed when pressure in the bypass passage is lower than a predetermined pressure. This permits a reduction in scroll size. In addition, the pump is free from problems present in pumps with large scroll sizes such as drive shaft vibrations due to warping thereof at high speed rotation, noise and heat generation, and durability reduction due to causes such as non-uniform contact between stationary and revolving scrolls. Moreover, in a compression step in the first pump stage, withdrawn gas is under high pressure; the gas pressure in a sealed vessel is close to the atmospheric pressure in an initial stage of driving.

  • Patent number: 5947694
Abstract: Vacuum pumping apparatus includes a non-scroll type auxiliary pump and a scroll pump disposed in a single housing. The auxiliary pump and the scroll pump are connected in series and are driven by a common motor. Typically, the auxiliary pump has a relatively high pumping speed and the scroll pump has a relatively high compression ratio. The auxiliary pump may be a regenerative blower, a roots-type blower or a screw-type blower. When a co-rotating scroll pump is utilized, a regenerative blower may be formed at or near the outer periphery of a disk on which the non-orbiting scroll blade is mounted. In another configuration, first and second scroll pumps are disposed within a housing. The scroll blade sets of the first and second scroll pumps have different orbiting radii. Scroll pump leakage may be reduced by forming a closed-loop seal around the inlet region of the scroll pump and connecting the inlet region to an intermediate pressure.

  • Patent number: 5855473
Abstract: A fluid handling apparatus, particularly a vacuum pump, has as a first stage a high volumetric displacement rate scroll pump of multiple nested interacting pairs of fixed and movable spiral-shaped blades supported in a housing between an inlet and an outlet. Each adjacent blade pair closes one inter-blade pocket in each cycle of operation. For very low base pressure vacuum applications, the adjacent blades extend about two revolutions to produce plural pockets in series. A second scroll pump mounted in the housing has its inlet fed directly from the first scroll outlet. The second scroll has a single pair of co-acting fixed and movable blades with multiple revolutions. A central drive shaft rotating in main bearings has an eccentric portion coupled to a plate that carries the movable blades of both scroll pumps. Synchronization cranks constrain the plate to orbit, not rotate. A purge gas flows over the crank bearings to sweep away and/or dilute corrosive fluids.

  • Patent number: 5616015
Abstract: A positive displacement fluid handling apparatus has a first, high volumetric displacement rate scroll pump of nested interacting pairs of fixed and movable spiral-shaped blades supported in a housing between an inlet and an outlet. Each adjacent blade pair is of sufficient angular extent, preferably only about 360.degree., to close an inter-blade pocket. In a preferred form for a vacuum pump, a second scroll pump mounted in the housing has its fluid inlet in direct fluid communication with the first scroll outlet. The second scroll has a single pair of co-acting fixed and movable blades with multiple revolutions with a relatively short axial height. The low back leakage of this second pump allows the first pump to omit tip seals on the free spiral edges of the blades. The volumetric displacement rate of the first pump exceeds that of the second pump. An orbiting plate carries the movable blades of both scroll pumps.
